1000 hp and up

The concepts for offshore racing boats and ski boats are completely different. With offshore boats the idea is to reduce wetted area and thereby drag, hence the success of catamarans and batboats, which have never been successful in ski racing. Ski racing boats use their awsome power in the rough to push along a boat full of fuel and water ballast in order to flatten the water for the "dope on the rope". Witness the massive trim tabs on most ski race rigs, used to steamroller the water. There is usually some good ski race footage on www.skirace.net or come along and see the real thing at Allhallows on Sunday 17th June.
