Weston Super Mare National 2nd July

WESTON BAY WATERSPORTS CLUB NATIONAL 2006.

Sunday 2nd July 2006

Competitors Information.

Dear Competitor
On behalf of the Weston Bay Watersports Club we would like to welcome you to the Weston Bay National 2006, which is to be held in Weston Bay on Sunday 2nd July 2006.

Detailed below are the arrangements for the race weekend, updates will be regularly made on the clubs website the address of which is www.westonski.co.uk.

Weston Super Mare can be approached from Junction 21 Southbound of the M5 or Junction 22 Northbound of the M5, directions into Weston are well posted and you are advised to follow the signpost for the Sea Front.

The club has made arrangements with the local authority for motor homes and campers to use the Melrose Car Park, which is situated on the seafront however there are a limited number of spaces available and all costs incurred for parking must be borne by you. You will be charged for each parking space your vehicle takes up. An overspill motor home camping facility is available at the Madeira Road Car Park; there is no other overnight camping facility around the Knightstone Slipway. Please note that no bar-b-que, fires or awnings are allowed in any car parks.

There are several car-parking facilities in and around the slipway, unfortunately these facilities are not free and the current charges must be borne by you.

Weston has a wide range of hotel and guest house facilities, should you be booking a hotel, you would be advised to attempt to secure a facility in or around the Knightstone Slipway, the main activity area for the weekend. Should you experience any difficulty in obtaining a hotel or guesthouse we suggest you contact the Tourist Information Centre (01934 888800) who will be only too pleased to assist you.

Signing in and scrutineering on the Sunday is only by prior appointment and we would ask you to contact the Race Organiser to book this facility.

Teams arriving on the Saturday up to 1400 hours are asked to place their boats on the Beach Lawns adjacent to the Tourist Information Centre. Whilst on the Beach Lawns your boats will be scrutineered. Once your boat has been scrutineered you will be able to sign in.

A social event has been arranged on the beach lawns which will commence at 1200 hours where drinks and light refreshments will be available. However security id’s will be required and these will be available from signing in.

Signing In will take place from 1200hrs through to 1430hrs on the Beach Lawns. And afterwards at The Pavilion Bar from 1600hrs to 1800hrs.

Should you arrive after 1400hrs on the Saturday you are asked to go straight to Knightstone Slipway, your boat will be placed on the Promenade, where it will be scrutineered from 160hrs through to 1800hrs.

Signing In can only be completed once your boat has been scrutineered, you will be asked to take your completed scrutineering book along with all you race documents to signing in.

A boat parade will take place from the Beach Lawns along the sea front to the Knightstone Slipway starting at 1515hrs and you are invited to attend if you so wish. Please organise your towing vehicles to be at Beach Lawns for 1500hrs

All boats are to be placed on the Knightstone Promenade and security has been arranged for the Saturday night commencing at 1900hrs. Should you wish to gain access to this area after 1900hrs then you will need to produce your security ID.

A Competitors/Officials cocktail reception is to be held in the hospitality facility on Knightstone from 1900hrs through to 2100hrs on the Saturday.

Saturday 1st July will see the quarter rounds of the World Club both rounds will be shown at the Pavilion Bar at 1600hrs.

Entertainment will be provided on the Saturday night in the top bar of the Pavilion Bar from 2200 hours.

A firework display will take place over Knightstone Harbour from 2200 hours on the Saturday night.

The Weston Bay Watersports Club, it’s duly appointed officials or members cannot be held liable for any loss, damage or injury to any property or persons whilst using any facilities provided by the club for this event.

Weston National

After a bad start (me not doing my helmet up) we had to make a stop on the first straight which cost us a lap.
After the helmet strap was fastened we joined the race 1 lap and a bit down.

Somewhat with the mistake I really wanted to press on and try to make up the lost lap.

Burty drove very well lap after lap in a short chop with a challenging corner at one end we caught up the rest of the field and un-lapped ourselves, we then went on to finish first in class and second overall, only being beaten by an F1 boat.

Amazing how well you can ski when your P*ssed off.

Thanks Burty and Barry for crewing........exellent race.

Yes I t was Mr Clapson, good observer.

He had to put up with a few hand signals from me as I wanted to go faster, he knew what he was doing and just did enough to put us in front.

Think him and Burty had some fun in the P20, seen it go up in the air on it's side a few times

For once it was harder in the boat.

Sam Barry's son also did well finishing 3rd.

Unfortunatly when i gave you the sizes 6 months ago we were talking about a single digit number so the spacing in between was irrelevent.
but when we then changed to a 2 digit number you didnt ask me about spacing
