Which will be faster?
I have a 50inch grp mono hull of a cigarette boat and the choice of 2 engines to put in it.
Engine 1 .61 10cc nitro
Engine 2 28cc strimmer engine.
I have a feeling the Nitro will be faster but more juicy and harder to get running right and obviously the fuel is more expensive.
The petrol engine slower but cheaper to run and a lot easier to run.
What sort of speeds will i achieve with either of these engines?
Ta.

Both could be similar speed !! Depends entirely on set up and make/model of engine.

The Nitro engine is an Irvin .61
The Gas engine is a 28cc sovereign
The boat is an Apache or very similar.
Thanks.

Niether are very powerful !! Assuming0 this is just a fun project I would go with the petrol for reliability and ease of use. (if it will fit)
If you have any plans to race it you will need something like a CMB Nitro or tuned Zenoha petrol.
Good luck
Bob

OPS or Novi Rossi would be a better Nitro unit.

I have a similar size boat (pipedream mk1) and have used irvine 61.
The top speed will be around 30 to 35 depending on just how good the shaft and the prop is etc plus how heavy/light you build it.
the sovereign petrol is gonna be 20 if your very lucky, its not a strong engine at all.
The irvine would be the best option, and keep the boat light as well.
Now mine has a mild 90 size and not much faster than the irvine sport 61,possibly 38 on a good day.
But i did try a 38cc chainsaw and that was just high 20's also tried a petrol 26cc and again not very impressive.
I Do have a 60 inch boat with a CMB testarossa evo2 15cc nitro engine and it will do close to 50 mph on
calm water running 10% nitro, and 45 in the sea.
this was verified with gps and a chase boat.
If your not into proper racing, the irvine will give you tons of pleasure and will be well fast enough and look like its doing 50 anyway..
