1971 Magnum 27' Sport. Sidewinder
I thought you would like to see some photos of Sidewinder. It has taken 4 years and more cash than I could believe! The motors were build by Mike Bontoft, of BHP Engines, Poole, they are 383 stroker motors - totally awesome! Thank you also to all those who have take photos, apologies if I haven’t recognised you personally. Nigel Barrett, please can you drop me a line. toll.i@atguk.com. Thanks.

Thank you.
I think that you may agree " Good Design can remain almost time less".
My boat is Hull no 159 from 1971 the first boat of this design was 1966 and to my knowledge nothing major was ever changed throughout the production run in to the 1980 s

Wrong place again!
Hi Ian
Sorry, I was at the wrong end of the start line... But it looks like Little Nige more than made-up for it! His pictures are way better..
I also kept managing to miss you at Cowes - congratulations on such an awesome achievement. All that hard work has certainly paid-off...
Will be in-touch soon, ian

Hi Ian,
Were you the one with the bandana on?
Can I say what a stunning boat, you should be very proud with what you have done. The sound that she produced made everyone smile.......
Here is a pic from my friend Malc Attrill , enjoy.

Brilliant, many thanks for both the comments and a great picture.
Yes it was me with the Bandana and yes I am at last very please with how the boat has finally come together.
I wonder if the Harbour Master at Poole will be as equally enthusiastic about the sound once the Harbour speed limit is lifted for the winter months ??

Side Winder
Hi Ian,
i got up close to your boat in Cowes as i was boarding a spectator boat and i must say how stunning your boat is.
May be a daft question but i was wondering if the attached pics is your boat, i came across these on an old thread only today and with it being called Side Winder and all that i am assuming it is.
Cheers

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your kind comment and the question is not daft at all.
Yes that is the same " SideWinder" back in the early `90s following the first refit by John And Craig as in the picture. Later the boat was sold to a. n. other who did not have the same talent or standards. By the time I bought it, it was a shadow of it`s former self, hence the 4 year part time total rebuild.

Hi Ian,
All i can say is "Time very well spent" your boat looks absolutely fantastic.
It's great to see this older boat being restored in this manner.
When i seen it for the 1st time i was actually thinking that it was a new boat with a "Retro" look. I was delighted when you put the photos of it on this forum recently and realising it's proper age.
Cheers & look forward to seeing her & hearing those motors screaming again sometime.

Hi Mark,
Many thanks for your comments, I am pleased that you approve of the work which I have carried out.
I originally had the old engines rebuilt as part of the refit which unfortunately was a total waste of money.
However Mike Bontoft the owner of Dry Martini which my son Christian has been fortunate enough to drive for the past three Cowes Torquay Cowes events is a highly talented and very well experienced high performance engine builder, built me a pair of Dart block 383ci motors with some serious attitude as you have heard, period correct some would say!!
