Hi All,
does anyone know if the early Avengers were gel coated in the mould or painted after removal ??? after removing 5 coats of paint from this one i now have a yellow colour which i presume is the original gel

Avenger Paint

I am pretty sure that they were original gel. In the 70s they were turning them out in large numbers, relatively, so unless they had a problem with the gel and had to rectify they were gel.
A really great boat you just have to be committed in a big following sea.
What engine are you going to put on her?

Good luck with the rebuild, I raced an Avenger 19 with a Merc 200 and that was a handfull, at present I am refitting a 21 with a Volvo 300hp V8

A 21

Thanks for the replies fellas, i thought i was down to the gelcoat just seemed strange that they used yellow , i was thinking of maybe a merc 200ish on a jackplate with a 4in stand off, i remember my old mans race boat had a pair of 100hp straight sixes back in the day, that went well, until he lost it (in a following sea ! ) still on bottom of north sea off Whitby somewhere.
