I remember seeing that at drivers too and I've got pics of it when it had drives etc, they were those old-skool volvo race drives. Funny looking thing!

must have been bit of a mongrel me thinks
engine cradles are from v-p b30 straight sixes which the AQ200 hp race engine was based on,(in production 1969-77), which in their day were a cracking engine (until the head gasket blew)
the transom cut outs are from 290 drives.
nice bit of travel on trim tabs !!!!
there again could have been fitted internal stops on the rods
when she raced as "Blast from the Past" she was fitted with a single merc
OK can i help it that i'm a Volvo man ? mind you not the c--p they make now
but thats a different story.
Larby, post a pic of drives if you get a chance would be interesting to see
what they were

B handled like a pig
C great history

When I raced against it in the 90's it had a pair of Merc smallblocks, 350 mags I think on Alpha drives. It was quite a capable boat, let down by niggling faults.

The story at that time was that it was built as a tender for a super yacht, possibly Khashoggi's.. I believe it was one of a pair.

Young Max Smilie owns, or owned that recently. I wonder why he's given up on it.

When Alan Prebble had it, it certainly went ok in the slop, though it was a bit short on top end speed if I remember correctly.

Indeed I think there were two, that one was owned for ages (I think directly after Adnan Khashoggi) by Andy Judge, who will happily wax lyrical almost indefinitely about it.

PS. just wiki'd Khashoggi. he's supposedly worth, or was worth $400 Billion .. F*ck me!

The last time I saw that boat it was in Tony Hamilton's yard (probably).

Blast From The Past

Always thought that was a cracking old boat. It was called Seven Up for many years, painted bright green and sat in Chichester. A truck backed into it whilst sat on the trailer and it needed a new side put in. Nearly brought it in about 1988.
Yup its Max's now, I thought he had plans to race it.
They were very tender boats to drive, I raced with Lady Arran many years ago, (1986?), in the larger one, ex Pobjoy Mint Jewelry, about 32ft, and you certainly needed the tabs!

Cookee is right. It was with Tony Hamilton who re-rivetted the whole hull. The hull is very good. I and a mate bought it from Tony but never got it running.

She was in fact built for Adnan Kashoggi and Tony will have more history.

It went to Warsash to be fixed. But again we never got it running. It laid around for quite some years as a reminder to me how not to go powerboating.

Finally I acquired two small block Chevvys and gave the whole boat and project to Mike Bontoft who wanted to have a go. He presumably sold it on.

It would be great is someone took it on. Tony did a lot of work on the hull. If anyone is interested they could confirm with him. It looks like the low hours small block Chevvys have landed elsewhere.

blast from the past

I began early today to find out the history of this boat, and I have posted threads on the Don Shead forum. I purchased the boat recently, and would like to know its history before I do anything with it. Seems I picked the wrong forum. If you look at the threads you will get the picture, but I would be grateful for any info you guys can provide. The boat is minus engines and drives, everything else seems to be there, and its all in what appears to be very good condition.
