Unfortunately due to my youngest daughter getting married on the Saturday,
(How inconsiderate) I will not be able to attend with the boat this year, but will try to get to Cowes on Monday morning to meet any of you that are still in the Haven.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very successful weekend.
Keep up the good work.
Can't wait for 2012.

Barry - If you have time, run the Triana upto Cowes on Sunday afternoon & join the festivities

Hi Martin,
Many thanks for the invite for Sunday.
Unfourtunately 'White Egret' is not in the water yet and I have a couple of jobs that I consider essential before she gets her bottom wet again.
The only thing that would have stopped me attending this weekend is one of my daughters getting married !!!!. And guess what.
I am so sorry that I cannot attend with the Triana but what about a Summer Pre Olympics Weekend? Maybe based in Yarmouth. I would be only to pleased to help with any arrangements and arrange berthing etc.
Maybe an annual powerboat version of 'Old Gaffers'. I am sure an opportunity exists for such an event without being tied to a major sponsored event.
Maybe it would rally enough support to convince the RYA that the Cowes Classic could indeed be started at Cowes ( under a safety car type procedure and speed limit ) with Wide Open Throttles from a line in Christchurch Bay supported and marshalled by the very boats that made the event a 'Classic'.

Classics at Cowes
It was a grand sight, from inside the pavillion at The RYS, the rain pouring outside, seeing the classics arrive with a loud roar of many motors !
What took me back was on Saturday evening.
Ahead of going to the Cowes Corinthian 'do' , I went to CYH & took a look at the assembled classic fleet.
It took me back to the 60's & 70's, when I was either at Torquay or at Cowes, seeing the returned cruiser/racers moored up, owners ashore of course, & the atmosphere of sleeping racers after the race.
A splendid effort from all who attended - next year there will be a predicted log event for you to be part of !

Cowes Classic PowerBoat Rally 2011
Well I am just starting to gather myself after a brilliant weekend, just a few High and lows
The stress of just getting there, I know what the race engineers feel like now having worked every evening and weekend for weeks now finally getting the tent down and the boat lifted off the stands and onto the trailer and towed to Hamble Point late on Thursday [ many many thanks to Ben and Pete for all their help] got it lifted in on Friday lunchtime
still with leaking windows and loads more bits to screw on -but looking great.
Making it out of Hamble on the Friday afternoon in company with Playtime Blue Corsair, Basta etc. made it worth the three and four am finishes. until with 3 miles under our belts and cruising gently at 25 knots the starboard engine tightened up and I heard the tell tale sound of pistons slapping valves...bugger - open the lid and sure enough there was a broken cambelt on the floor.
We limped to Cowes on one coz there was no way I was not having the boat there. Blue Corsair shadowed me and gave me a lift onwards [thanks Tim] things started to get better as we to GunWharf and saw all the boats there. A couple of beers on the pontoon helped.
Next morning as we came out and and Playtime lead off a mass start it was a sight to behold - a brilliant run up to Cowes, there will be some great pictures of the fleet.
Looking over the boats with Sonny on Saturday afternoon was a privilege - an absolute mine of information as you'll d expect and the variety of boats was marvellous, Johnny Vaudin was a worthy in winner in Basta
The Pimms seemed to go down pretty well as did the Hog later.
Sunday was mixed weather wise but running up with the race fleet was a buzz, as was seeing Cinzano and the Pantera come past battling it out to the last about 100 metres away.
The Dinner on Sunday was excellent as always from the Royal Corinthian capped off a fabulous event.
But most importantly I would like to thank everyone who attended, such a friendly enthusiastic crowd who made the event what it was.
I am pleased to announce that Ben and I will be running the Cowes Classic Powerboat Rally again in 2012.
We have made the preliminary bookings already and we will be running a full programme of events throughout the weekend, both on and off the water.
If you enjoyed it this year, well we have some great ideas for next , just wait..
Paul Hooper
28 boats on Saturday - who would have believed it!

Fantastic wk end, many thanks to Ben and all the Fairy owners who made us feel at home.
well worth the ten day late night workings to be there.
The sight of all those boats powering away from Portsmouth was something else.
We were last out as we were the largest so had a grand view of the mock start(any complaints yet)
We started to pick them off one by one when i heard expensive noises from the port engine, its going to be another piston and liner and i bet its one i replaced allready.begining to feel theres a quality issue here as a certain
ferry company in portsmouth has had 22 replaced in 12 months.
Sorry to all those who missed the old girl at her best, but at least we overtook my chief engineers boss on his fairy first.
We were overwhelmed with interest from so many people that i had a job to keep up.
Met lots of B/mad members whos names i will never remember thanks to you all for your comments and enthusiasm.and the guys from Gurernsey.
So although we joined the casuality list its time they both came out and were restored along with engine room ready for next year.well thats my winter taken care of.
Thanks again to everyone who helped make it happen.CW.

Cowes Classic
Now all the dust has settled and brain is clearing it suddenly dawned on me that not only did we have a magnificent Rally coutesey of BEN, PAUL and CHARLES but COPC had a magnificent double when club member Markus Hendriks again swept the board in the Cowes Torquay.....
CINZANO beat the best that the modern world could throw against her!
If ever there was proof that the oldies had style it was this weekend, 27 magnificent classic's and one winning the best race in the world perhaps a lot of people will now sit up and take notice.

Sad News
It seems this year is proving devastating for the world of power boating personalities
as yet another history maker in more ways than one has departed.
The legendary test pilot, Fairey Marine doyen and early pioneering powerboat racer
extraordinaire Peter Twiss died on Sunday.
It seems fitting that the Classic Rally was made up of so many beautiful Fairey boats
over a weekend when they were to lose one of their guiding lights.
Our condolences to the Twiss family and the Fairey Family.
Mike

Just to echo the thanks to the organisers and to all who turned up to make it such a great weekend.
Sympathies to those with mechanical problems but I guess that is all part of classic boating. Scherazade overheated badly on the way back and lost the revers locking pall made avoiding yachties in the marina fun!!. It goes to prove you shouls always shake down the boat before a big adventure. Time did not allow so better to be there with problems than miss the event. Thanks to Gerry for his help and Roger for escorting us back to Portsmouth.
