There is no problem with torque converters, it's just that these particular engine 400 bhp are so intractable that they need torque converters with lockup clutches, like the later 500 bhp motors.
When these 400 bhp engines were in this boat it had to be towed up on the plane, and injecting oxygen that the same time, I don't think you can do that now-days.

Hallowed ground
I hope that you treat that thunderbox (sorry, the heads) with due reverence...
Just think of the great and the good that may have sat there contemplating.
Presumably not for use whilst racing!

Don't forget the thunder-box was one time part of the rules for a Class 2 GT Cabin boat, there is only a very little hole out through the bottom just to make it legal, the loo was never used.

Sorry Jim, was only joking... With hindsight it looks pretty near impossible to use anyway.
I hadn't realised that certain "facilities" were still required after 1965, but then i suppose there were the cruiser classes too, though you say it was needed in GT aswell. I know Surfury was designed when class 1 had to have six foot of headroom in the cabin (with class 2 having 4' 6"), with bunks and crockery etc... though I gather some people went out and bought dolls house cutlery...
Anyway, she looks very good. Mr Hagan has looked-after her well.

Please No need to apologize it's just that I was trying to put across to most of the members on this form that nearly all Class 2 boats in the 70's had Cabins and the had to accommodate 2 crew, cook and eat a meal.
Yes you wouldn't think that the old wood boat was 42 years old.

Remember having this boat at New Brighton for the "Big One" am sure it was maroon in colour and the joke was a boat to take your family racing in.

As an update - the deposit for the entrance has been paid for The Cowes to Monte Carlo Race, and Race Boat International Magazine have produced a superb article on HTS in the current issue due out March 4th, but can be seen online, pages 40 to 45. Many thanks to Mike at C.O.P.C for all of his help. Work is progressing slowly but surely in her restoration to her 1972 spec.

A 5 hour meeting took place with the guys from Perkins last friday, where alot of measurements were made with regards to the engine refit. Matt Wilson, sales and marketing, Dave Wood, applications engineer and Chris Moore design engineer. All starting to take shape at last.
