Miss Embassy Found?
It might be old news but I have only just picked this up:
"Thunder Bird last raced in the 1976 Cowes Torquay Cowes - see photo of the boat in this race. Prior to this she was raced as Miss Embassy. She is a Don Shead designed boat. Her machinery consists of two side by side 498 fuel injected Chevi's, race legs by Kiehaefer".
Will be going to see it next week to see if this is true. Does anyone know anything about it?
ML.

Ahh, Unoembassy, sorry Flying Fish, that makes sense. I'll take some pics anyway. Howard Wreatham has just told me it's a 40ft Planatec. Can hardly believe it! He has also told me of a host of other "ancients", Cigarettes and the like that are sitting around in Barns all over the country. Personally I don't understand this thing about keeping boats in barns for thirty years. It's nonsense, after all they don't grow in value. Get them out in the market place and sell the darn things so we can all enjoy seeing them being raced again.

Apparently Mike Mantle blew the engines some years ago and it's been hiding down that way ever since, engineless, so the story goes. In a Barn, as you say but where?

Cigarettes in barns
Will `Howard the Mole` spill the beans on just what ciggys he`s unearthed?
From what I can make out there are the following
35` Limit Up
37` Peter Stuyvesant
35` Champagne Mumm - Wareham
36` Colt Sapporo - Drivers
36` Realite Charger - in Norway
40` Limit Up II - South of France
Or are they production ciggys.
It almost requires a raceboat mart on a website if there are that many.

Realite Charger actually entered for the RB08 in Class 11 but backed off at the last moment saying he thought he would damage the boat.
If he had entered and kept going he would have won that Class and/or the Classic class! It looked to be in great condition and fully restored.

I think he may have pulled out due to stipulations over the fuel tanks (you know that old chestnut, Health & Safety gawd bless it), but I stand to be corrected if anyone knows differently....
