More new pics! Keep them coming Graham! I agree - the windscreen looks to confirm it. Must have been the only Bertram to have seating for four I would imagine.

Not having had photo of the Safari had noticed this simile with the 38' of Trost in a tape that I must find again.
But your pic confirm that simile.

Getting back to the original thread, this is the latest picture of the old Miss Enfield 2. Comes complete with two 500hp BPM engines and trailer.
Any enquiries should go to Don Wood, on 01590 679895 or 07802 367390.

ME2 latest pic
That topside looks as if it has seen better days, but then again it is only 14g swaged alloy.
Just to show what a small world the boating industry is,that hull was drawn up by Leonardo da Costa who was dismissed from the ranks for playing the designer, and went on to design the `Crusader` dayboats of which Mike Ring had one of the first, and he in turn went on to do his thing.

And those dents on the portside neat the waterline are possibly remaining marks from the '76 crash onto Cowes beach?

The "engineer" was infact one of the lads from the Scorpion yard. He told me that the problem was that they were being too cautious (RNK's influence apparently) with the power for the driving charactaristics for that boat. Once he had his hands on the throttles things improved
BTW, Miss Enfield is still for sale. There is a private advert in the back of Motorsport magazine this month.

It seems those hulls were built strong. Others would have been a total loss after such an impact:

Tin Boats
That pic Olli is one that appeared in the Daily Express Newspaper at the time and has been copied off by the looks of things.
With regard to Miss Enfield 2 being strong,I think the expression is `fit for purpose`.Give me a tin boat any day to survive a crash.Trouble is they are so expensive to build as one off`s.It makes you wonder if cougar went the al.alloy route once cunningham appeared on the scene and cougar wood boats virtually were ripped up in a crash. If you build enough plastic boats then no doubt it`s worthwhile running a business to do them, together with the fact that the plastic technolgy has superceded traditional materials. If that Victory cat had been in alloy perhaps the hull would not have been ripped apart as much.Doesn`t change the canopy issues though.I`m trying to think of an alloy cat or mono that has broken up in a high speed accident. That Goldrush pantomime was one where the plating got ripped off a bit, usually things just bend.Jon is about to put some more films on the site, and there is a shot of the Chesterfield CUV careering on to the rocks with a crew member holding his hands in the air,as if to say `how on earth did we hit that`.I think it appears in` Italian Racing 1987`.

Finally found that article on the teamwork (involved in driving a Class 1 boat) I was on-about...
It's from the 1983 C-T-C Programme.

Miss E 2
It is rather sad that 2 of Tommy's 3 winning boats are now in foreign hands,
TELSTAR in Australia now Miss Enfield 2 going to Italy..at least THUNDERBOLT
will be here to honour the 3 wins TEB SOPWITH recorded in the Cowes Torquay..still the most highly regarded offshore race in the world.
It is also an unusual fact that of all the winning boats from 1961 onward it is the Hunt, Levi and Shead designs that have survived........
