Yeah, finger trouble, now sorted.
Good innit!
How about this one then.....London Calais London (sort of)
Check out the very young, and rather well spoken Geoff Purves!! And John Iddon doing the early 80's scrutineering bit.
remember, if you double click on the playing video window, it goes full screen, and they're not bad quality.

OMG!! That brings back so many memories and they all look so young. I had just blown an engine on my Revenger and missed this race but had gone up to HMS Belfast with UKOBA to watch the start of one of the races that most of us loved at the time, the London-Calais-London. UKOBA ran some great races in those days. My Brother was navigating on Ultimatum another Revenger made and raced by Roger Dobson. Everyone got to Ramsgate just fine but it was the leg around the Goodwin Sands that took most of them out. Because the conditions were so bad there, Colin Stewart in his Revenger decided to hug the coast so most of the other cruisers including Alan Web and Roger Dobson followed thinking he knew what he was doing. I don’t know what went wrong but my brother was screaming at Dobson to go left for the Goodwin Bouy but he wouldn’t. End result they all ended up close to Dover! Realising they had got it wrong big time they all trouped back to Ramsgate and were out of the race having missed the course. In the meantime the Fairchild Bros in Minster Heat Wave relishing the horrible conditions in their 34ft Sunseeker pushed on with Peter Hewitt in his Welcraft 26 about five miles behind and finishing the leg around the Goodwins ran back to London. Peter thought he had won as he never did see Minster after the start and thought he was in the lead. Bad surprise when he came home under Tower Bridge to see Minster moored up by HMS Belfast!
By the time Minster Heat Wave came over the line I and most other members of UKOBA on HMS Belfast were totally drunk, we had been drinking all day! What a fantastic sight though to see two Cruisers beat the pants off everyone and come home first and second with Jeff Hunton and Philip Warner in another cruiser "Splashdown" Fourth. It was another great excuse to open more Champagne!
Roger Dobson and my brother have passed on. Colin Stewart is allegedly living down in Spain close to Pete & Jan Armstrong, I don’t know what has happened to Webby, he’s dropped off the Radar, the Fairchild Bros are helping me to organise the fuel for the RB. Pete Hewitt owns and is running a Powerboat School in Bembridge IOW and you all know that Jeff Hunton & Philip Warner are coming out for one last go in the RB. I raced against all these guys for ten years.

Just for your info. Pete Hewitt imported the Wellcraft for a while back in 1981/2 and his first batch were two 26 footers fitted with twin 260hp engines, colours Yellow, and Red. He raced the Yellow one for two years and won everything in Cruiser B. I sold the Red one for him to Lady Arran which she also ran for just over a year and did well with. Peter then imported the Black one as seen in the above video and did reasonably well but by then Jeff Hunton was coming on strong in his 28ft Hunton and also the Revengers were starting to take over. Pete sold the Black one to a guy who won the Round The Island Race with it but can't remember the year. Might be 1985/6. I do know he treated it so rough that the deck almost came apart from the hull. I am sure Clive Baker ended up with one of them.
Pete and I were going to "do" the Round Britain Race in 1984 in the Black Wellcraft 26 as can be seen in the original RB brochure but first he went down with a back problem and then my wife became seriously ill three weeks before the race start so that was both of us out. Just a bit of Wellcraft history info for you.

I have just finished seeing the 1970 CTC again and I want to thank Graham and Jon to give us the possibility' to see these marvelous images. Living these emotions are the good way to hold alive the memory of those distant and fantastic years.
I hope that Graham and Jon still have other new surprises for the one that breathes the Offshore as me.
And I still suggest to Jon to pick up all these tapes in one or more dvd and to purchase.

I have a total of 30 hours of video that Graham has given me to use on the net, as time goes on, I'll continue to encode & upload them, in no particular order, watch this space.
However, as I said before, It's Matt who has made it possible for me publish Grahams library on this site. So all credit to him.

That could be a possibility although the Thames is a boat breaker and the French don't like us turning the Buoy in Calais any more. However, if we can finish the RB without problems then we do have bigger races in mind providing you guys want to do them!

Morning Mike,
Got to disagree with you over Putney Calais.........
Back in 97/98 I spent hours if not days trying to put on the the race again.
The problem was not the French (for once!)
They were doing everything for us and putting on a banquet, even got help from the ferry companies, The River Authority were all for it, but with a staggered start (5 min delay per class).
Even Putney were allowing cranes on the tow path and prepared to shut the area off.
PROBLEM was the Coastguard at Dover, they would not have it, even re-organiesed boats to stop at Dover then go over as a group..........
Eventually found out was one of our own safety guys was not happy !!!!!!!!!!!!
