Spray rails are now extended fully aft, transom outer board removed, original boards splined & (dozens of) holes plugged. New transom outer board cnc cut & will be fitted in the next couple of days. Then filled & faired for painting underneath before being flipped over & the new deck fitted.
The whole hull has been scanned & he is looking to cost making a plug to make up some new hulls. He has similar idea for a Tremlett as he has a 16 footer. All on his FB & linked from his website.
It is noticeable how well the Stapely hulls have fared over time compared to the Tremletts of a similar age. Tremletts suffer badly from glue failure & I know of 4 that have needed/need major work to keep them going. The veneers delaminate & the hog comes loose causing splits along the keel line. The 3 Stapley's that have been extensively worked on are not suffering at all, hulls are always good to date. The 'beetle juice' glue seems a whole lot better than what ever Chris Tremlett used.
Dan is in a quandary regarding his own Tremlett, purchased as a restored boat that was structurally sound only to find numerous issued including the hog coming loose the 1st time he bounced it about a bit & after a couple of seasons use all the outer hull veneers are de laminating. That's one of the reasons he bought the scanner as he thinks it will be easier & cheaper for him to build a new hull the trying to reconstruct the old one from outside in & inside out.
