Try 75 mph - OCR phantoms have never done 85 with an XR2 on the back with the exceptions of the one with Searay speedos! And if you're only 13 now you must have had difficulty seeing over the steering wheel whenever you were racing the Argo!

How was it banned anyway? They are long enough and are a ski boat?

As he's just a youngster he probably works in metric, Cookee. I reckon he means 95 kilometers per hour!

What was the boat Martyn Rendall used in 99 to achieve the 83.86mph record in OCR?

100 MPH ??

Where did you get you smiling Jacks from?
You would benifit from a Brucato PSU.
Is your 280 ported?
If not 320 is probably a bit much to expect.
I know of a couple of 380-400hp 2.5 motors in Belguim but they won't last much past the 10 hour mark before needing a rebuild.
If your serious about reaching a ton I would consider selling yours and buying one of these.
You could convert it back afterwards to run on a lower octane fuel with double ring 280 pistons, this would last about 50 hours before needing a rebuild.

It would take alot of setting up to get your motor to run 340-350 hp.
And you probalby won't see that power on pump gas.
CMC now have a 10"set back powerlift, this would help in your quest for a ton!!!
You will probably need a very large pitch prop.

smilin jacks is the name on the slide plate,he also did the tuning work on the engine,i believe he sold more mercury engines in the us than anybody else,he owned a boat dealership in florida and set up race boats,he used to set up charles burnetts engines which is where my engine came from.

Engine builder

Roofer so you think Smiling Jack built you engine!!!
Is this what you have been told or are you guessing that because it is stamped on the side of your sliders.
Do you know what compression the motor is running.
Have the electrics been changed for 260 electrics or does it still have the alternator on it.
Can you see any obviouis mods on the engine like, angle cut reed housing, bored air horn, aftermarket ECU, addtional exhaust port work.
What colour is the fuel pressure regulator at the top of the fuel rail?

You might have yourself a tuned motor already then!
Do you have a setback plate on the P18.
What condition is your transom in ?
What steering do you have on it, things may get a little tight at a ton!

cyco, smilin jack modified the engine for charles burnnet who is the american billionaire who raced in the nineties, when he packed in racing all his equipment that was in this country was sold off, which is how i came by the engine.i cant tell you anything about the engine as i havent seen it since the day i bought it.
the phantom its going on is new so transom should be good,it will have 6 inch of setback and run on wire steering when hutchy rigs it out.
