91 had a drop on cowling shaped like the old clamshell, 92 may have been the year they changed to the more modern style

cool thanks buddy.
Being skint having moved out of mums has taken a hit on the finaces and £1500 max so it might seem like a good engine to invest in

I have an 89/90 Mariner 200 and cowling is like this. Hinges on the back of the engine and has the vents at the back. Its possible you might have the 1 piece cowling with the vents at the side as they changed to a 1 piece around that time like the pic in Roffers post,

I got about 55 tops bit of a let down but it was set up for skiing with a 5 blade prop on which will slow the top end down but it pulled from a standing start like a train, also had a bow tank full of water too, so that didnt help. Changed the prop to a laser11 3 blade and lifted the engine up 2 notches and tried it without a bow tank full of water, think engine may have been a bit to high as got a bit of spin then engine knocked its ends out. That may of been because of an air lock in the oil injection system due to some oil tipping out the header tank when i tilted the engine up as cap was broke and i didnt realise.

Never owned a Ring but they aren't as fast as Phantoms with the same power... Pash's Ring 21 with a 225 Yam only managed 59 on gps flat out on my local river. A guy with a Ring 16 and Merc 150 only manages 53.
