A calm place to take the family

I am trying to find somewhere to take friends and family for a blast but ideally somewhere where the water is genarally calm and a destination to get to for a drink or meal.
Would love to take people over to cowes but the crossing is a bit too rough and i dont want to scare them from boats.
Any ideas?

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul If you are launching from Drivers just go for a run to Hamble like we did on your test run. If you go further up the river on the left you will find Port Hamble Marina and you can do a short stay.

It is then a 5 min walk to Hamble village where you get a good choice of pubs and restaurants.

On a high tide tide, you could also carry on up the river hamble, and stop at the Jolly Sailor on the left hand side, opposite Moodys boat yard (premier).

Also, at the end of the hamble there is the rising sun, which do good food also.

Another place, which again, I beleive is tidal, is ealing, take a right as you come out of the itchen, and follow it all the way down past the container terminal, and before you get to the bridges, bear left and follow the channel.

Another place is the River Medway. Launch at Thorpe Bay in Essex short hop across the Estuary and up the Medway to the Malta Inn where you can moor up and have a good meal and drink. Also go through some locks.

How timely!
Sat at the aforementioned Malta Inn last Thursday, pre -funeral unfortunately, we debated the possibility of a Thames Estuary Poker Run this October, in tribute to the racer that lost his life. We could use Allhallows, Southend, KBSC and Whitstable clubs.
What support could we expect?
