Anyone remember .....
Richard Lawson of Class one fame? I was drinking with him on Friday night and I pointed him towards the media section for the Round Britain stuff. He's very well and bought a place just across the estuary from Salcombe.

Actually I had wondered before if he was a member on boatmad, couldn't help admire the 2 monohull boats he raced especially the 41 CUV always looked very well turned out...was he a director of the Follett cars company that sponsored the boats

Maid of England
Richard Lawson - Maid of England. No sir. Roger Munk. The RB69 brought out all sorts of one off`s.I don`t think he actually crossed the start line. The photo was taken at Port Hamble just prior to the race.Perhaps he couldn`t get up on the plane with no spray rails! He went on to be a big player in the rebirth of the airship as a commercial project.

Could Tim be right, my 1969 Round Britain Power Boat entry list states 700 Maid of England, was driven by Richard Lawson.

Maid Of England
I`ll name that driver in one,or maybe two.Roger Munk was the designer chappie.Richard Lawson is listed as the entrant but as far as I know it never raced as such,so who the crew were going to be who knows.I`ll just get out of the hole Tim had dug when remembering past shead boats.

Spoke to him last night - Maid of England broke a drive before the start, that's why it never started. It then gave him the impetuous to make sure he was better prepared for the London Monaco race!

I managed to get in contact with Capt Freddie Barker on monday and had a long chat with him, UFO he said he thought went to Sussex but can not remember who bought Moppie but that she was becoming to expensive to keep running.
I seem to remember she came out as McQueen's Jeans, but as usual my thought it was still with Cap Barker was wrong so now have to find who had her as M Q Jeans..

McQUEENS JEANS
Roger Kelly ran McQueens Jeans.A guy came on the website a while ago asking for photos of the boat. The contact was SABSTOTT@aol.com (Brian Stott).I think he has connections with the boat.
