Phil, where are you going to race it? Do you have much of a 1.3 circuit over there?

There's no 1.3L race scene in France. I wanted a boat that ressembles an inshore racer, but for 2 without a "canopy"- basically a Lake Racer like a small stv to go 60+ mph on the Seine.

Boat was first raced in 1.3 in 1988. 'Dell Buoy' took a nasty turn in it for the 2nd time in 1990 and then packed in racing, he would have been about 58 at that time, and rolling Argos over at that age is no joke!

Last I heard about it was from his son in law, who told me the boat had been sitting in Dell's garden for years!

Dell and Peter Wilson were the only UK owners of 1.3l Argo Cats (I think Wilson ran 4 hulls from 87 to 03.)

They are an incredibly quick boat as the records prove, to run in one at 82 mph with 90hp behind you takes some believing !

They can be driven in the rough, all you need is BUPA, a lottery win and a lobotomy.

Think of the weight of a can of paint. How many cans required to paint the boat? That is the weight added....

The argo cat was Derrick Mortimore's. It was the boat that Del-boy put it over backwards in Southampton Water late 1990. I helped to build the trailer it is sat on!!!! The hull was shipped over from the Sweden and sat on pallets while the trailer was made. Clive Jones had a hand in setting it up. I had the fortune of going out on it on its maiden voyage out off Hoo Ness Marina. Del-boy never ran the boat after the accident in Southampton. He broke his leg and had to have a lot of physio.

SP thanks for the memories. Did you ever weigh the trailer, it's massive. Feels like it weighs more than boat & motor combined.

Derrick was and still is a haulage contractor. Apart from keeping the boat as light as possible, as long as the trailer and boat weighed under 32000kg he wasn't too bothered. His Shogun pulled it about no problem. I think he did weigh it, next time I see him I will ask him for you. Watch this space.

Next time you see Dell pass on my father and I 's best regards. (John Moore) Mum and Dad regularly eat out with Dell and Connie at races - I was never keen on him mixing with the opposition!
