Argo Cat in Paris IV

After a 90 Yammie to 2.4efi Merc swap & a lengthy rigging, finally put the Cat in the water yesterday. Wow what a beast !!! Got rid of the CMC jackplate made the boat way to flighty. The 5.5' setback was obviously wrong for the boat since even with the extra motor weight (+70kgs) the Argo doesn't sink at the stern as much. I had added 20kgs of sand up front but I'll be removing some to help the holeshot, the 3 blade 14x26 cleaver takes a while to dig in, the Merc being 5 cm above the pad. I didn't have the gps but we where around 100kph, & there's more power left.

Hello Frenchphil

Sound about right in regards to setback.

Argo cats are well known in Swden - have you tried to conatct other owners for their experiences ?

I would guess you should see 130 - 150 km/h speeds on GPS with that setup !

Back on the water yesterday, 2 in the boat 103km. There's more but it gets pretty flighty & steering is real loose. No trim & tach yet, CLE leaks oil, does it vent or 100% fill of gearcase not a good thing.

with the motor at level trim you should fill box till it starts to come out the vent, should take just under a litre from empty

65mph in 17' cat with a 2.4efi sounds a little conservative! shouldn't you be running like 120? (mph)

BTW, fkk that!

i believe a record of 78mph was set with a 17 argo cat with a yam 90 in the late 90s. my brothers argo mono touched 62mph with a race speed of 58mph with a 90tohatsu. put your foot to the floor until you see 100mph or buy a 90 if you want to go faster..!!!!
