Atlantic Crossing
Planning to pop across from Ireland to St Johns next March (1825 Nm). We are currently ramming in some larger tanks in to the XS. Just wondering if anybody out there fancies joining us in their boat.
Could be safer & more fun with a couple of boats out there ?
Clearly this trip is weather dependant......
so ya need a flexible March....

How much fuel can you carry ? .. after a quick calculation i would of thought you are going to need about 6-7000 litres (at least)

Std the boat burns 1.7l/Nm..... racing it burns 2.4l/Nm..... Worst ever seen in RB08 2.7l/Nm (Flat out in smooth water). Don't know what it will burn full of fuel... much testing to be done.
Boat Std is 440 litre tanks... these are now ripped out & so far we have 1400litres of Ali tanks refitted. The rest will be flexi bag tanks/jerry cans & we are planning to refuel at the 500Nm point. Need to turn the boat into a floating fuel tank that can still plane & steer with the rudders not the bow!
Fuel expectation is 1300Nm @ 3l/Nm - 3900l plus reserve. Might be doing some of the journey after refuel at displacement!!
Will slap a few piccies up as the boat is finished and tested/sinks under the weight...

Assuming this is genuine and not a wind up (why March for gawd's sake? ) I live in St John's if you need anything at this end.

Crossing the Atlantic to Newfoundland has been done before many times, it's the doing it in March that surprises me. March is the dead of winter here with a lot of snow and usually many storm systems. If I were crossing the Atlantic in a small boat I'd be looking to later in the year.

I'm Picking up a boat to race next year so we are going to bring them both back, the boat delivery is End of March & I need to get it back for the first Marathon race, not planning to set off if there are storms forecast, hoping for an oily smooth ride , March is good as there should not be any ice around... hopefully, although there could be a bit of fog as we get in!!
Thanks for the offer of help, that could be very useful.. especially a bit closer to the event to get a weather outlook from your end.
We are planning to get the right window & 'sprint' across as quick as possible without straining the boat or the bodies!

The right window might be a challenge. Bring a snow shovel with you.......

More suited to this than powerboating!

Looks great, I do a lot of work with IOC (Iron Ore Canada) up in Labrador City. The weather is the same but with no infrastructure... Lol .. Oh and bloody big brown bears.
St Johns will be a stopping point before we blast down the coast to pick up the boat from the good old US of A
We will stay in St Johns for a while & grab a couple of Ski-Doo trips.
Had a look at the boat today with the new tanks... The GRP guy's have done a great job... we are rebuilding it now ready for sea trials to establish where to place the other tanks

Labrador is a darn sight colder than St. John's but you get the idea about March weather. When you make it across I can hook you up with a decent Ski-doo guide.
