Baby Uno?

Hi all, im new to this forum but I noticed there was a few comments on a thread a while ago re Baby Uno.
I am wondering if anyone had any info re her stats ie engine /speed/ race finishings or any footage as haven't been able to find any on the net apart from a few photos. I did notice that some of you may of raced against her in the 90s.
Thanks Matt

I was told that the Nicolini Searacer uses the same runnung surface as the Baby Uno. Baby Uno was designed by Geir Arnestad
and built in Norway. It went to FB Design for engine installation. The Italians recognized the potential of the boat but it suffered
from porpoising. They changed the angle of the last running surface and were so satisfied with the result that they decided to
splash it. That is what I was told.

Beautiful boat!!!

Does anyone know where I can find video footage of the 1995 Class 2 race at Cowes in the Isle of Wight. It was the unfortunate race where Hamed Buhaleeba was killed whilst leading the race in his Victory cat. I would think that the whole race would of been telecast but can find it on the net just the 10 sec of the Victory crash. Any help would be awesome. Thanks Matt

I do have the German version of the report in ‚Watersports World‘ but it is not that good. Every time I try to upload
a video to YouTube audio is not in sync with the pictures. However, there is a written report on Graham Steven’s website:

http://www.powerboatarchive.co.uk/Ma...%20TORQUAY.pdf

If you are looking for pics of Baby Uno’s crash, that was in ’96:

Hi Olli, thanks for the article, draw dropping to see her banged up like that. They have done an awesome job of rebuilding her as no signs of delamination on her now, although the fairing job on the aft port side has let go in big chunks so I have ground it all back to glass again. How can I get a copy of the video with her in action from you ? Would love to see her on the move.
Thanks Matt

That boat also sustained a load of hull & stern gear damage at the Gosport event around 96/97 when it ran over the infamous submarine barrier at Portsmouth during testing.
It was towed into HMS Dolphin (the race venue) in a sad & sinking condition with pretty bad damage to the hull centreline and most of the clockwork bits poking out the back.
I did have pics, but have no idea where they are now.

I seem to remember Mark at Vulture Ventures doing the repairs that time.

Hi Jon thanks for the reply, I did hear that she ran over that and riped out the drive. When I got her she didnt have any power plant or drive gear as per pic. I did notice you yourself race so you might be able to answer my repowering question. I am looking at re power her with a supercharged 454 big block 4 bolt (aprox 700 HP) with a Bravo 1 sterndrive. In your race opinion does this sound like it would be enough, I think she had 1000 HP in origonaly.
I realise that she wont be a race boat again but should get up to around the 90 kph mark what are your thoughts? Thanks Matt

I'm a bit confused, you say no drive system, 'as per the pic', but in that pic it has the Trimax drive still installed? just missing the rudder.

The hull is obviously designed around the dynamics of a surface drive, and also having a fair bit of weight in the stern. Seems a shame not to run a SD.
I think 700hp would be fine, but would certainly think it would be better with SD, and I would rig it with all the weighty bits as far aft as possible to make up for the weight difference (Seatek is roughly 750kg + gearbox)

M D Good luck with your build but A BRAVO 1 will not last long behind 700hp and even less behind supercharged 700hp .

What do u recommend in stead of the Brovo 1. As you can probably tell im new to all this, just couldn't let a boat with so much history go to waste. I chose to move away from the SD as there was to many unknowns, so the mercury dealer told me he recommended the B1 sterndrive. Also the cost as I said this is a labour of love so a tight budget.

Do you still have the Trimax drive?

A Big Block Chevy on a transmission coupled to the Trimax would be the cheapest & simplest option surely?

A Borg-Warner Velvet drive based / beefed up transmission is a fairly easy to find, and cost effective option for gearbox, engine choice already made. I hope you still have the Trimax as it's a known factor with that hull. And they're virtually unbreakable.
All you have to source is a rudder, or fabricate one and a suitable prop.

Plus of course, you'll have a Roooooster tail to die for
