Just got back from a rag and stick week in greece and I want a job working for the coastguard there!

They have two wick boats for dealing with Albanian baddies around Corfu. I didn't get a close look at either, but look of about the sort of vintage of the bertrams etc in this thread. They sounded awesome and were really travelling. The skipper of our lead boat said they'd been in the marina on Corfu and they were basically old race boats painted grey!

What a job!

On another subject, could never decide with MikeyF whether it was a language thing, me just "not getting it" or he was an opnionated tos*er, fortunately he helped me out. He seems to have a lot of jobs and an awful lot of toys, always bigger, better, faster than everyone elses! I mean when everyone else just likes the noise of a V8 he's been made deaf by the bloody things - that really is competitive!

This is the history of the two boats

Dog Gone Bertram 38: This was originally built for Bill Elswick and was called Long Shot, it was I believe the last Bertram 38 built, construction was very light, Bill never raced the boat but he tested it once at Lake X before he had to leave the US with uncle Sam in hot pursuit. After several years it was sold to Gerve Brazier and it became Visions of Guernsey, it then spent many years in Dick Ridouts front garden in Guernsey only moving during the Powerboat week where it was used as a static display as one entered the pits village, then some dodgy geezer called Tony Hamilton purchased it and it became Dog Gone, after several years annoying the locals in Poole and Southampton Tony sold it to a guy who operated a boat ride company from Merlin, then I sold it to a man called Fernando in Portugal and we fitted it with a pair of Mercruiser 502 Magnums, Fernando still has it and when I last spoke to him he want to sell it, think he took the engines out and put them into an Aronow Cat.

Toleman Bertram 30: This was originally a Flap Jack (it may have been owned by Preston Henn before that but it was not a Benihana), Ted purchased the boat from Howard Quam in 1979/80 he raced the boat as Toleman Group all over the world it later became Peter Stuyvesant and then Carlsberg before being retired and fitted with a pair of 425hp Mercruisers, after a number of years in Scotland on a lake that owned a Island on I sold the boat to Alan Clarke, think it was about 1994 and it was renamed Ocean Thunder, last year it was sold to a German who I believe is restoring it.

Many Thanks to PJC. I'm preparing a historical book of the Bertrams 38' Competition with pictures and datas, and your informations are good for my job.
Only a doubt in me: I think that the Peter Stuyvesant-Carlsberg,was not the former Flap-Jack-Toleman Group, but a second 38' that Toleman bought from Aoki's Benihana in 1982.
Look the windscreen, are the same, and the Toleman Group had the exhausts two on each side, instead the Peter Stuyvesant-Carlsberg that had their on the back, like the Benihana.
Maybe was made modifications,on the Toleman Group after the 1980 season, adding a windscreen and changed the positions of the exhausts?

You can see the comparisons on the pictures that I posted some posts above.

And whilst I'm still logged on - good move Jon. I was itching to tell Mikey he was a loud mouth know it all with lots of opinions. Shame he couldn't be humble enough to admit that sometimes he was wrong or took a moment to respect someone elses (opinions).

PJC re-rigged Bertram 49er/Flapjack/Toleman Group/Styvesant/Carlsberg and one of the changes was a re design of the windscreen.

Bertram 49er,former Whittaker Moppie 1976,s of James, probably was not the second Flap Jack-Toleman Group, because was damaged in 1978,s Benihana race.

Hola Nige!
Copper Kettle was the next third Bertram 38' Quam's Flap Jack,in 1980-82.
That in black and silver colours, where the throttleman Miles Johns was killed in 1980's Bacardi Trophy.
I don't believe that was the Needle Nose III. I don't know when the Lewis bros. run with it.

P.S. at least have changed your avatar! The great ERAF!

I have only this two.

The first came from Motorboat & Sailing a US 1982,s magazine.

This b/w came from Searace, and spot the last minute before the dead of Miles Johns.
