Boat Registration Certificate - how do you get one?

I am planning on taking my Ring 18 down to Spain in the summer for the holidays but having looked at the requirements it looks like the Spanish expect the following:
  • UK ID - Passport / EU Licence - fine with that
  • Valid certificate of Insurance - fine with that
  • Boat Registration Certificate - ????

My boat is a Ring 18 C, it does not even have a serial number plate or a piece of paper glassed in to identify it??? I have looked everywhere as well.

Will this pose me problems, or can i obtain a certificate and register my boat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to do an online registration for an MCA small Ships Registration (SSR) certificate, costs £25. (Also known as part 3 registration)

Takes 5 mins to do.

Link - https://mcanet.mcga.gov.uk/ssr/ssr/

They could theoretically ask you for proof of VAT and want to see a Bill of Sale showing ownership. MCA has a downloadable Bill of Sale document which is easy to fill out and will keep 99% of customs officials happy. VAT hopefully not a problem due to the value but it depends how officious the guy inspecting your docs wants to be.

Word of earring if you're heading to Southern Spain, the Guardia don't like fast small boats from the smuggling days so just be aware they might take a very close interest in you!

Pm me if you want any help filling forms out.

James

Sorry but more info.....

Just leave the HIN number blank but you will need to pick a name. Once they issue you with a certificate and number ie. SSR123456 you need to get the name and number made up in vinyl letters and stick it somewhere obvious.

I'd suggest you also fly a red ensign and a small Spanish courtesy flag as a sign of respect. Little things but it might be the difference between a great holiday and being impounded on day one!

Thanks for the Reply and I shall getonto the forms tonight.

The boat is only going down for the summer then i'll bring it back over to the UK.

I'll definately get the name added to the boat in Vinyl and thank you for the advice.

As properties are so cheap at the moment i thought i'd buy a place and thought it'd be rude not to take the boat down lol luckily it's nott too far down south (Northern Costa Blanca), but I get where you are coming from about drug smugglers as its not exactly a leisure boat

Thanks for the advice and I may well give you a shout when filling out the forms

I go down with my boat every year.
They will tug you, just the once (in my case), make sure you have all the ships documents on board, including your passport.
They asked me (in Spanish) about fire extinguishers , I produced a life jacket!
Once the initial inquisition has been completed, they'll leave you alone.
This is of course assuming you visit the same area every year!
If you have any questions, just ask, no probs.
