you're missing the point, I already have proprider!

I think the term 'proprider' is used 'generically' to describe a boat running fast that has little left in the water except the prop, although it may well have routes in the hydroplane world.

jon,

I can see where your comming from with the name change. Most of my mates that know i frequent here refer to this site as "boatsad.com" as thats what they think i am!!!

Something more catchy may work, but a sit happens; I dont like "proprider", sounds like a site for people who talk a good game and dont actualy do a lot of boating.

...........so we're probably good for 390 members then

back to being serious, I dont like unessasary "rebranding", i've had this discussion with Gav quite a few times recently; hence why he's now "seaquel mouldings" and uses a basterised version of the same basic font he's always had for his logo.

I think yer gonna open up yet another can'o'worms with DNS names Jonny, we'll need god as our copilot on this one!

Whatever name ya come up with, people will always still take the piss out of captain, instead of boatsad he'll be cockrider, though it's admirable of you to want to protect him from being bullied by the other children in his institution. :frown:

Proprider feels like it has a more 'coolness' attached to it. It might also offload some of the historical baggage associated with the early days of boatmad. On the flipside boatmad has gained a bit of status now, especially since fib.net has been nominated as the official comic, and as a 'brand' is gaining strength all the time.

But, as Tony said, WTF are ya gonna do with the lorry full of hats? It'll take fkkn ages to unpick all the embroidery.

Obviously the black on red, bevelled, shadowed etc is still your favoured typeface, but I think it'd be good to investigate a logo as well as a name. On the forum main page, perhaps consider tweaking that a bit at the same time, and bring the style & layout of the forum and the main site together a bit.

What are you hoping to achieve by changing it? Are you just changing it cos yer bored? Certainly removing any association with the greek is good, or are ya hoping to rival OSO and make yerself a millionaire? I'm not sure there's enough of a target market in the UK for that to happen.

If it were me, would I do it? Probably.

One final question, is lilac really the right colour for the hardcore performance boat enthusiast?

proprider is no good, mailnly as it has strong links to a guy in the boating world and his boat/buisness.. Lance of steel developments has a boat called proprider and although i dont know exactly where in london he lives i bet its that tw17 postcode...

When i met the guys with c24 at lymington one mention of props and Lance and his boat name were immediatly brought into the conversation and therefore i feel (imho)the name is already associated with someone else boaty

why pick someone elses name/phrase/alias etc, get a new one

Actually, I've owned proprider.co.uk & .com for a few years now, the TW17 postcode is mine.

I know the boat in question, and believe me, that boat don't propride!!

it's a 25 knt, 40'-ish flybridge cruiser with a pair of Lancing Marine surface drives, and other than the name, has absolutely no conection whatsoever with performance boating.

Still, I appreciate the comments, keep em coming.

So you've already decided to change the site name and this is an attempt at persuading everyone that instead of being a mad egomaniac despot you're a fluffy caring sort of guy who really cares what people think?

Still think proprider's a silly name

PS Did you get my email? Why don't you answer my calls? Is there someone else?

No Jon, on the contrary my dear chap, with only 748 posts i consider myself a member of the Gotalife.com club.

However, with your 4995 posts i would consider you to be a founder member of the Getalife.com club.

Long Live the Queen.

Jon

BoatMad may not be the best name but look what happened to the Post Office.

Scream & Fly doesn't shout boat at you but now that it's established it seems a good name!

Cheers

Mark

I personally don't like proprider.com

Stick with Boatmad or you could swap it round and have Madboat.com
