British boat launch

Prince Michael launches new performance UK boat

By IBI Magazine

HRH Prince Michael of Kent, the Queen of England's first cousin, was on hand at the official launch of the XSR48 on the Solent yesterday. The £1 million boat is being billed by its manufacturers, XSMG in Lymington, as the "world's fastest and most exclusive diesel production boat".

Manufacturer XSMG told the website "This is Hampshire" that the boat combines the DNA and high performance of a supercar with superyacht styling to create the "world's first true superboat". Only 100 will be made.

The boat was built at Lymington's Berthon Shipyard in partnership with local companies such as Green Marine and superyacht designers Redman Whiteley Dixon of Beaulieu.

XSMG employs 20 people, with up to 90 workers, largely from the New Forest, involved in production of each boat. About 24 will be built each year. XSMG CEO Ian Sanderson told the website that he had signed ten provisional contracts, and has 70 more expressions of interest.

The boat will be marketed with a series of attempts on world endurance speed records next year by Sanderson and director Peter Dredge, who are both world powerboat champions and multi-world record holders.

Sanderson said that the "ultra-rich" were buying supercars, but that there was no marine equivalent.

"The boat is the product of three great British attributes: innovation, entrepreneurship and a taste for adventure," said Prince Michael at the opening ceremony. "It's a true super product of which British industry should be proud."

The company noted that over 55,000 man hours went into the development of the XSR48.

Ok, I have been told it IS the same design as the Kerakoll P1 boat. It is basicall the same hull, which has been internally refitted to be a top of the range boat.

Buzzi's website with the hull form http://fbdesign.it/pagstableisure.php

LIES LIES LIES........

Looks like Ice Marine are doing this boats advertizing as well...

Quote:
With up to an awesome 2000hp, the XSR48 is the world’s fastest production diesel powered boat and capable of speeds exceeding 100mph.
So this is a Diesel powered boat capable of speeds OVER 100mph!!!

and yet
Quote:
Engine options Twin Diesel:
Fuel: Diesel
Maximum speed : up to 85 knots [98mph/158kph]**
Cruising speed: 50+ knots [50+mph/90+kph]**
Also note the little **

Quote:
** dependent on conditions

( conditions will never be good enough to get this speed we have published. It is the speed we calculated we could get, given perfect conditions and zero slip.... )

I´m just not sure if it looks right. The height of the cockpit roof puts me off. And in reality I´m not sure there are many people who would want luxury AND high-speed. If you want high speed buy a Cigarette. If you want luxury, buy a Sunseeker. Good Luck to them, but I can´t help but think it will disappear all too soon.

The 100+ speeds are attributed to a pair of 1200hp petrol engines.

Interesting it then says

"Fuel: Petrol (not available in Europe due to emissions regulations) "

And we thought that the diesel debate was a problem!
