I'd have thought 200+hp would do more damage than a few bumps on a trailer, but either way if its showing signs of moving is well knackered!

James when we got our P20 it had stress marks where the previous owner had a lifter fitted, see photo, apparently it was flexing with the lifter attached.

We had a stainless plate fitted and our engine bolted straight onto transom, see photo

Wonder if many people on here have had a transom rebuild on a p20, seems the usa love transom savers but don't seem popular in the uk.

Yes it seems to have done/doing the same thing except maybe it's too late now it's starting to split, maybe if it was recovered faster it could have been saved. How do race boats use lifters and get a hammering and still be okay are they reinforced? Might be worth getting more strength in it if it's getting done.

Thanks again lads

Transom savers are for poofy lake boats that break at the sight of a wave, a 70mph offshore boat takes a FAR bigger hammering on the water than a nice trailer with rubber tyres and suspension.

My money is on it being rotten, many many phantoms have had theirs replaced over the years

Yeah that's what I thought! I don't feel as bad knowing it's not an uncommon thing.

It's Most likely the origional transom from new, not surprised with the wear and tear over the years it's started to break.

James do a search for Apache P20 on here and have a look at the stainless steel transom plate they fitted under the lifter

If its starting to fail under the weight of the engine, its going to disintegrate the first rough day and cause all sorts of other problems.

James was only suggesting that you plate over a structurally sound transom, when you have repaired the transom

not to try and mask the issues you have

Yeah Jason I knew what you ment! Be worth looking into. How do race boats get there strength? If it's getting done I might aswell get as much strength as possible in there.
