With all due respect the the "Gentleman" concerned I know more about powerboat racing than the Egyptian nomination!

Lord Beaverbrook

I have never had the opportunity to race but I have loved the sport since an 11 year old witnessing Thunderbolt from Brixham Mole in 1961, it seems to me than that the downward spiral of the sport is due to the fact we have no one who is able to steer powerboat racing in the right direction. If the ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION relinquished its control of a sport they obviously have no interest in and concentrated on sailing, then maybe a Powerboat based association could be formed by the people who know and love the sport .
Whilst we led the world in design it was the Americans who developed the sport (though even they have had problems) whilst our once proud history of unique offshore races have vanished one by one leaving competitors with craft not suited to the current series. As I have said before and will keep on saying, bring back the CRUISER CLASS AND A Modern interpretation of the old CLASS 1,2 and 3 Rules which were tampered with by others out to kill the sport in this country.
Maxwell had a whole army of clubs behind him and yet we were it seems rebuffed, the result of the wrong representation of our interest's.

Coooookie - if you stood fro UIM president, I'd vote for you.

Out of interest, does anyone actually know what these people have said they will do if elected? Has anyone read their manifesto's? Apart from the cool name - does anyone know what the Lord wants to do with powerboating?

Thunderbolt, I whole heartedly agree with you.
I tried in 97/98 to do just that BUT when we did manage to get the drivers to-gether after they signed a petition of some 60+, not one stood up at that meeting and said a word, I was letf alone to try.
I then did start but the people in the "know & power" a minority I might add.
But when I found dishonesty, double standards, blatant lies and one who knew every rule and law backwards just sat there and said sweet FA!!
When I had ALL the proof and documents to prove this I was asked to leave the room while they found away to minimise the fall out directly before the AGM, I was then refused entry back into the room or to the AGM.............
And what is more frightening is that "some" are still weilding power!!! Still trying to rule for their own ends and will, as has recently been divulged here(not by me for once!) try to disrail every effort to move forward...
I am prepared to try again but .............. I don't think the drivers really want it.

As the ORC chairman i was present at the last Clubs and Classes meeting.

All clubs had a rep at this meeting apart from Zapcats

Everybody at the meeting wanted Lord Beverbrook to be supported by the RYA, and this was Miniuted.

At the PBRC meeting on 21/08/07 myself as the chairman of ORC took the stance that all the Offshore clubs wished to support Lord Beverbrooks application. A long discussion took place where many views were expressed. The final result being the statement that has been posted on this thread!

It appears that the RYA is now backing Lord Beaverbrook.

I've just read his manifesto;

http://www.worldofpowerboats.com/Manifesto.html

and reckon he gets my vote. (oh , I don't have a vote......)
