Checking to see if an engine has been raced?
I'm now looking at a boat with a 130 Honda on the back, but the guy is being a bit shifty on the history of the engine.
I have a feeling it was used in the Honda championship. Is there anyway to get an idea of its past, either through wear on the engine or through giving the serial number of the engine to Honda and seeing what they say ?
Cheers

If it's the boat on Ebay, advertised as an Extreme 21, then yes it's very shifty! The motor is an ex race motor, and the boat is a snide copy built out the back door by Danny, ex cougar employee. The build quality is shite, and boats and outboards have agreed not to advertise it anymore, as it's been advertised as one of mine in the past, but is clearly not!!!!! It isn't CE certified, and so is un insurable!!!!! if it's not the boat on ebay, then oops, sorry about that!

Taken from the sundeckvip website......
"Seven years ago I was approached by Honda personnel who were interested in testing their large 4-stroke marine engines in a racing environment. Having found no suitable powerboat championship to get involved with, they were creating their own; the Honda Formula 4-Stroke series. I don't think they had any idea how popular it would become!"
Steve Curtis...
Wot aload of old shite....

Yes it is the one from ebay, well spotted. In what way did he advertise it as being "one of yours" ?

The series was devised by David Sewell of Raceboat magazine, and the boats were built by ourselves for the first season! Steve was brought along by David as a "celebrity" driver, who then went on to build the boats under licence from me!
As Matt says, by calling it an Extreme 21.....which it certainly aint! The boat looks like it's built out of corrugated fibreglass, and it really is a shabby bit of work! I complained to Honda about it, but I didn't ever get a royalty payment for it!!!! guess I'll be calling them again tomorrow.

Nah, he uses 'feltching' as his password for all his forum accounts, OSO, FIBnet, FIBsters, cottaging.net, etc. that way it's easy to remember.
