Chuilli, new UIM President

Certain officials of the RYA will be celebrating today after 'their man' Italian Raffael Chuilli was voted the new UIM President at the General Assembly in Turkey yesterday. Chuilli won the vote over Lord Beaverbrook 20 to 18 votes but eye witnesses report that certain people from the UK were blatantly campaigning for the Italian in the days leading up to the vote.
Maybe now, the WPPA will be considered as a viable alternative to the UIM bearing in mind, the entire UIM operation will be Italian led. Who will be Chuilli's Vice President and who will take over as head of Pleasure and Navigation.

Vice President from RYA !!!

We know the Vice President cannot be from the same country, but wouldn't it be a surprise if it was a Brit.

Now you would not be suggesting that there was any manipulation of the presidents post just so that an opening would allow a Brit to get elected as Vice President, which would not otherwise be allowed by the rules? ?

I think you might find that Charlie will be there for another year, but who will take over running the Pleasure Navigation Committee now that Chuilli is El Presidenti ???

I heard that the wives were invited as well, They were flown in first class and they were put up in the presidential suit! And they went to see the piramids, and that they were given cash to vote for Chilli.

Actually, what I heard was that the UK voted for Maxwell, but dont let facts get in the way of a good story...

Wrong?
I was told straight up that Maxwell was voted for by the UK, and *not* by a UK representitive either. So I would like to find out, cause if some Sweeeedish bloke is selling pies, then there is going to be trouble.

Or Wrong that they flew in first class?
Or wrong that they stayed in the Presidential suit?
Or wrong that they took their wives?

Hi Guys

I have read this post with interest there is only one small problem with it in that it is incorrect.

I was there and the only British couply out there were not John Puddifoot or me as we both travelled alone.

The rumour that the RYA did not support Maxwell are also untrue, i personally put in a lot of work to ensure that Maxwell was co-nominated by the UK. Dont believe me ask the man himself, at no time did the RYA not support or vote for Maxwell, and for the first round of the voting the 3 other candidates were knocked out leaving the running down to the last 2 which were Maxwell and Chiulli for the next 2 rounds of the voting it was neck and neck and Yes we were still voting for Maxwell. The 3rd and final round resulted in Chiulli winning and yes we still voted for Maxwell.

Remember there are 36 voting nations within the UIM the UK only has 1 vote and we stuck with Maxwell.

Kind regards
Gary Manchester

Just typical - ruining a good story with the facts.

It does however tie up with the information I got seperately, so I suppose at this time I have to believe Gary.

Brokeback Turkey?

As the truth is coming out, spill the beans. Two hotel rooms or one? And was it the Presidential Suit?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Gary. Whilst I beleive the RYA did actually vote for Maxwell, can you confirm that, other than saying hello to him in the hotel reception, you then spent the rest of the time with Chuilli on the opposite side of the room?

Hi Chris

The answer to your question is apart from saying hello to chiulli on my arrival at the meet and greet this was the only time i spoke to the gentleman so i certainly did not spend anytime on the other side of a room chatting to him. I did however have a conversation with Maxwell i also had more then one conversation with the PR gentleman Maxwell had accompaning him, i can asure you that Maxwell recieved the maximum loyalty as the UK candidate.

The only thing that did surprise me somewhat was that Maxwell himself did not arrive untill the saturday which in my view did not give him alot of time to speak to the other countries deligates. I can asure everybody that this is in fact exactallly what happened and that all the rumours scuttlebuck and inuendo is in fact exactally that.
