I'd guess go for the V24 first then re-power in the field for the mono. Take some beating those extra few MPH are oh so difficult to find I'm sure Howard will be back to push it into triple figure

Thinking along the same lines.
*IF* we manage to build the engine we are looking at, we will take both engines and the V24 to Conneston.
First set the V24 record, then re-engine for the mono record.
Very rough calculations say that we would need circa 600hp to crack 105. We are aiming for around 700hp on the engine, so ....

Tricky, that hull wont do that sort of speed without swapping ends!! Ask Mr Mannerfelt. The 28 hull could only manage 106 before letting go. More HP dosn't = more speed.

Reindl powerboats ran their 'B24' with a 600hp engine and got 106mph measured on a mile run in the USA. The V24/B24 is a different hull than the B28.
I cant find the story - perhaps someone else can find the link - where there is a purple B24 running over 120mph.
I was told the main differance is the B28 ran outboard engines quite high and the B24 runs a leg, which is several inches lower into the water. Not sure myself what the significance of that is, but aparently it is important...

If you're serious about this, don't underestimate the knowledge required to build a 600+ hp small block, that'll stay together.
Get on to the guys that build them for Ultima, or similar, and have a motor shipped over, ready to go.
I've watched a good few people over the years, throw fortunes in time & money trying to get big power out of motors, and most of them go 'bang', making far less power than they'd like to think they were making.
Phone Keith Eickert, splash the cash, and wait for ya 750hp motor to arrive!

There's a hell of a lot of lower unit in the water with a V24, so it must have better chances of staying facing forward than a thing with egg wisks hangin on the arse, mounted as High as a high thing!

Agreed - although the ultima specific motors are aimed to be revvy to suite a very light car. Their other motors are probably more suitable: http://www.amerspeed.com/
Personally, I'd take a close look at something based on the world products motown small block, a displacement of up to 7.4l
