Ok, it’s a Laser Welder. Anything else applies too much heat to the piston changing its shape.

no it hasn't dude, he sent them to you but you drilled one and found someone had already tried before so it wasn't possible. I had to buy a new set

I was joking dude, half expected you to say something like "very carefully"

I kinda thought it would be some sort of laser though!!!

If I ever get my act together I shall be sending the pistons from my 260 over to you for top pinning, don't hold your breath though

John, welcome to boatmad. Bizarrely enough, we were discussing you & Jay Smith at our video night last night - how much of a coincidence is that. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

I remember those pistons. Someone had tried to drill a tiny hole down through the original pin and pin the pin, so to speak. I could see the welds on the tops of the pistons so I milled down very slowly until I found the other pin. The problem was if any metal is left when removing the old pins it will come loose and come through the top of the piston. I had never seen anything like it before.

I know you were just kidding. I am not as protective over parts of the process as I was when in the beginning. So many people have tried and failed over here is the US that I don’t have much competition if any when it comes to top pinning.

Hey John, yes, it came this morning. Thank you for taking such care in packaging too, it arrived safe and sound.

Don’t worry about what Tripp says on Scream and Fly about HP limitations with a 39-lbs. fuel regulator. I make 360 HP on an A48 at 9600 RPM. That is the chip I chose to race with in the F1 Mod-U class. You won’t have any problems.

John, what can you safely rev too on 39psi? I did ask Jay but he wasn't sure.

11500 RPM with the A48. The ECU drivers are mad to handle 11500 on the A48 curve. 56 lbs. was designed for better fuel atomization but on the dyno there in no HP gain with 56 lbs.
