3C Worlds - Solenzara
Sunday's water was a bit bumpy in places. In the opening 150hp OCR race, both Bob Mcarthy and Jeremy Gibson delivered a consummate driving lesson to our French friends. On every lap, both boats took the lead in the rough, only to be overtaken on the smooth home straight by a 150hp Piranha, a boat that looks uncannily like a Ring. These three left the rest for dead, never more than 20 yards apart. However, on the last lap Jeremy got T boned by an overtaken Thundercat and stopped to give assistance, but was awarded his 3rd place anyway. Jeremy was of the opinion that Richard Mason would have nailed the race.
The final 3C heat was delayed due to high winds, however, the flag dropped at 15.15. The start chute was interesting, Patrick Mosconi completely submarined his B23 before popping up after 30 metres then a few seconds later, C16 flipped and the race was red flagged for good.
It's a shame that Marcus couldn't prop appropriately, but Thomas and Annika did brilliantly in the other Twister 24. Philippe turned up with a Hummer, a 7m RIB, an offroad Quad ,a motorbike, two scooters and his trailer had a brand new 200XS and two new spare gearboxes strapped to it.
Full results are on the Offshore Passion website. It was a fantastic week and a lot of lessons were learnt regarding race organisation, promotion and professionalism. More working together will come, we think.

The new 3B Batboat design is coming togther very well and looks very different.

Unfortunately, Keith broke a vertebra on the first lap of the second World heat, forcing a gentle return to harbour. He's since been in hospital in Porto Vecchio and we are collecting him tomorrow afternoon and bringing him back, in a lumbar corset, from Figari to Stansted. Didn't stop Paul 'though, who raced every FF3 litre race as well as the Worlds and got rewarded with a podium and trophy. A bit robbed on the last race because the water was perfectly suited for the Adam Younger design.
To quote Paul - Cancellation for rough water reasons must surely apply in reverse i.e. cancellation because it is too calm and too high speeds will be achieved. Interesting observation.

"Kinfast-O-Clock" is the phrase you're looking for. I don't personally miss them at all.

6 or 7 !! they had 6 to 9 in each of 4 classes !! inerestingly they are upto 100hp
100-150 hp (although rumour is they are really 200's) then 200hp and 3litre !!
(like 3c they dont seem to bother too much with the rules though)

Not quite what I said but the jist is right.
On the thursday the sea was like a mirror, which meant we had bought a knife to a gun fight. On frday conditions were about perfect for us, however after a great start, about a mile from the start my ears started to ring, Keith had come out of his seat a little, and whilst getting re seated we hit a series of waves the result of which was the boat came up and hit him awkwardly, hence his fractured 5th vertebra. Shame as we were lying in 4th place and going really well.
Your be happy to hear that Keith has been to a UK hospital and should make a full recovery in a couple of months.
The French authorities allowed us to run with a new Navigator....Gavin Galea.
We entered the French Championship on saturday and sunday. On saturday we had an awfull start (totally my fault), got sandwiched by 2 canopied boats as they collided about 10 metres in front of us. Spent the rest of the race having a great battle with V5, finished 4th 2seconds behind him.
On sunday conditions were rougher, had a much better start and after a great couple of laps battling with V5 and a cat, finished 3rd but 2 minutes ahead of V5, hence our 3rd overall.
Sunday's 3C race....conditions were windy but offshore so the seas were roughly the same as the morning race. Course wasw bought further inshore to try and keep the cat racers happy. Most of the cats did not even both craning in so only 11 boats made the muster. We had a good comfortable start, with no drama's at all, we were lying in about 6th place just next to Marcus when C16 went full throtle and flipped. Us and 5 other boats went back to muster as the wind totally died, conditions were excellent....no wind and 1 to 2m waves........RACE CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????
It would seem that Offshore only means offshore if its really flat. We would not have won the rough races as the Excaliber boat of Pierre Paul was superb in the rough, as good as his mum's cooking. but we could have achieved some good results, if I hadn't broken my crew.
However what a great week, superbly run event, great location, great people.
Highly recommended......we will be racing their in the French championship next year, time allowing.
Cheers Paul
PS a big thanks to all those who helped us during the week, Barrie, Sheena, Jean-Marrie, Tom, Bob, Brian to mention just a few.
