Hi Nick

A few thing to watch out for.

Most are probably around 10 years old now and have had a hard life you only have to look at the video’s to see most of them were treated like banger racers.

They were made with Vinyl ester resin and most that I have seen have been repaired with polyester and it does not stick and is a waste of time apart from cosmetic, the only think that sticks to it is epoxy. I removed most of my repairs and re did with epoxy and they should last. The chine’s had a habit of delaminating, at least mine came with that problem and I knew where the problems area’s were, I also strengthened the weak spots from inside as the problem is caused by the hull flexing. If its freshly painted you just never know what it is hiding and whether it will fail again.

If it’s had repairs on the inside check them with small chisel under the edge and if they ping away like a non stick pan they would need re doing.

The fuel cells have a 5 year life span and if its started to crack as mine did it will want replacing. I was quoted £3000 plus Vat for a new one. You can have an aluminum one made, I used Oval 316 in Pool and it was around £600 and they made an excellent job as it is one of the things that they specialize in. The other problem is, if it is the same shape as the original it will not fit through the hatch or foot well so you will need to cut some of the foot well surround out.

Make sure it comes with the Capilino helm and twin IMCO rams, as will probably cost £3000 to replace.

All in all generally a very light weight, strong and sea worthy boat, but you are buying and ex race boat that has been abused.

Marmite, love them or hate them personally I they are the mut’s nut’s.

Just buy carefully !!
