Cougar race boat performance

So...seen this Cougar in another post here and fleabay and am intrigued.

How does performance change as power increases in something like this??

Basic facts as I have them:
LOA: 46'
LWL: dunno
Beam: 9'6"
Draft: dunno - but if you look at the last pic on ebay it gives an idea
Displacement: Original dry/no engine weight 5,000lb

That plus 18,500lb of kit 3xCat800hp on Arnesons gave 80+mph in 1998

What would performance be with, say (ALL DIESEL):

2x500hp -- 1,000hp

2x600hp -- 1,200hp

2x750hp -- 1,500hp

3x500hp -- 1,500hp but substantial(??) weight difference compared to 2x750hp....but cheaper???

3x750hp diesels 2,350hp I assume up to 18,500lb of weight and 80+mph

Also assume that Arnesons is the only way to go with this sort of HP?

Just getting ready to "add to basket" and fire up my PayPal account...just wonder if he will deliver to a PO Box in Nigeria.

There's a US1-46 here with surface drives and Yanmar 440's (x2), I think it runs around 50mph.

Arneson / Surface drives would have been the only easy option back then I guess, though Mk 6 (or the now discontinued Diesel 7) would have probably done quite nicely a while later, and given a bit of decent trim control too. (It's not a true stepped design, so positive trim would be usefull for top speed)
