Cougar, Scarab or Cigarette
With the wealth of experience on here i ask this question We are possible looking at buying either a Cougar, Scarab or Cigarette boat that is about 10 years old and 38-40 foot long
Which of these would be best suited for RB 2008? ie Bullet Proof. What class would the boat be in? Were not out to win but to have fun.
After the event the boat would be used for Poker Runs, Blade Runs or following the racing

The military have used Cougar before - must be pretty tough bits of kit.

If you keep it under 40ft then you would be running in Class S2 with up to 21,000cc engine capacity. Gives you loads of scope.
Perhaps you should be looking at the secondhand American marketplace. Some good buys out there. Just my opinion of course.

One step ahead. thats where were looking. Problem is my mate wants a Scarab and i've always wanted a Cougar. Thats why i would like some feed back on whats best for this event.
I don't want to trash the revenger and my back.

For the rough the Cougar 38 is great ,build like they did in the old days, solid laminate.
A Larry Smith scarab is also build like that ,very strong ,very good in rough.not be confused with other scarabs.
Cigarette early ones are tough ,and have a solid laminate too.
Go for one off those if you like rough seas.

Did anyone find the "Limit Up" that was allegedly sitting in a boatyard in Malta? If it was the 40', that would be ideal for the RB maybe with a couple of sabres or the like. Speaking to Pete Downie at the Motor Boat Museum 20th Anniversary last month, he told me that the 40' had been converted to cabin before the team sold it. Funnily enough he is holidaying there soon.

That's the one that has been mentioned on other threads. I believe its Tony Toll's of Poco Homes fame.

Yeah, I know Tony quite well, though TD is a much closer pal, and can probably give a more accurate story of it's history.
It was originally a 'Stagger' setup, and Tony converted it to side by side.

Do you dream a Ferrari with a Iveco engine inside?
I know well that the diesel engines are today very progressive and competitive but for certains Items are forbidden.

Yeh, I do..
The seller is a pal of mine, and he bought the boat (cigarette mistress) whilst we were having a weekend in Porto Banus with our wives many years ago.
It had sat around in the yard for years, having been built as a toy for the Arab arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, or so the story goes. It had been fitted with a pair of staggered big blocks, and was set up with a three man bolster configuration, same as a race boat, although I don't believe it had ever been raced!
The boat was brought back to Poole, where it was re built by the current owner. It hardly ever get's used, but it's quick, and absolutely awesome in big seas, I've been out in it a few times, great fun.

Probably be a bit more reliable.
I've been having dreams about an Audi with a diesel engine, much like the car that they used to win Le Mans!
