Cowling says its a 2.3L and spec says its a 3.0L


Which is it! for a oil burner it must be a 3.0

I am curious how the standard 3.0L lowerunit and midsection from Merc will do with the kind of torque a diesel generates

Not sure what can be patented though…diesel outboards are not exactly a new invention…
Wonder what engines they are based on?

The fact there are no under hood shots is why I am hugely suspicious.
An under hood shot would identify the engine as actually existing and give a feel of the general layout.

These things are normally basted on car engines; I wonder how many 4-pot 3-litre 300ph car/truck engines there are out there?

I was wondering that myself,
And to extract 300 bhp from a 3.0 diesel?? just seems a lot.
What do you think?
Toyota 3.0 diesel / Shogun 3.2 DID is only 157 BHP.

Even the new BMW 3ltr twin turbo diesel engine only produces 290hp, Vauxhall worked their 2ltr unit up to 225hp with twin turbo and with a fuel consumption that matched the 150hp version but then they never released it on general sale, although their was a new racing Astra made available with a 1.9ltr diesel unit rated at 195hp and did 145mph...diesels are getting quicker...now who will be the 1st to stick a 1200hp seatek in a vehicle

Diesel has been coming on a long way in the last few years,

It is my understanding that Etec's are multifuel capable and can be set up for diesel. Is this true and if so anybody now what power you get out of them

Question

How does that work then?
Petrols 130-180 PSI per cylinder then Diesels 600 + PSI in the cylinders correct me if im wrong.
I dont understand this.
Is it not Petrol and Gas??

MFE outboards

Mercury started a long time ago with optimax outboards on diesel for the US army,but never heard anything again .
OMC/Bombardier Genmar also did this ,and can be found on the net under : MFE outboards

I believe they run to 200 hp ,you can switch these outboards from gasoline to #2 diesel ,or kerosine ,and is still spark ignited
So a controlled ignition can be made ,no self igniting.

I still believe their only made those for the army /marine because everything in the army is running on # 2 diesel or kerosine ,they even convert quads for the army to diesel /kerosine power

The trick is according to MFE that if you inject under high pressure ,and probably heating the fuel it can be spark ignited ,take a flower spray can and fill it with diesel spray it and hold a lighter ,and it will throw a big flame ,if you just drop diesel on the floor you will have a hard time to ignite it .

It must have different switchable ECM settings that belongs to each fuel ,I never saw one in real ,but cant wait to hear one running ,just to hear what sound it makes on those fuels.

If that engine where this topic is about makes 300 hp ,and rpm,s in the max 4000 ,s it is a torque monster that will produce probably 450 ft /lbs or so max,so I think that poor lower will explode under a load .
