Hi John Holmes, see your avatar is of the VR1 I have been banging on about for months, and what a great buy it would be so have you made an offer

I made a post when I noticed it had dropped to $10k or offers
also noticed a nice Merc 420HO out their that according to the Velocity site could kick it along at around 80mph not bad I thought for a single 420hp 29' boat

so if you have purchased it

Hi Cfun,

Yes i have bought it. I have been after it since i saw it advertised on offshoreonly.com. I am now looking forward to the build now though i need to get it completed for next season.

Hi Jon,

As a member of many forums, i had decided to make it easier for myself by using the same user name on all. There is nothing suspicious a foot

Are you able to change my username under Turnip1 so that all my previous posts come together under my name? If not, feel free to delete that account Jon.

I can change the turnip 1 account name to Jon Holmes, no trouble.

Is that what you'd like me to do?

Speaking as the Rear Commodore of C.O.P.O.C. (the Classic Offshore Powerboat Owner's - but you don't actually have to own one - Club!) I'll have you know that I resemble that, intensely!!

I've always wanted to be a pompous oaf...! Only got as far as the oaf bit though...

Actually, it backfires nicely and is a ready-made joke... well, it breaks the ice... "Look-out, here comes the Rear (ooh, err) Commodore"... "Don't drop your napkin, here comes the Rear Commodore", etc. etc.

We're only a small club and maybe it helps to get us taken seriously... or not!

I quite see your point-of view, however.

Toodle-pip, old chap...

2 questions..... Where do you go where you need to be announced as the "rear commodore"

And wtf does COPOC actually do?

I have asked the 2nd question quite a few times, but never got an answer.

I'm never announced, anywhere. Nor am I ever referred to as a Rear Commodore.... only by family and friends taking the piss...!

I joined COPOC because, as a young lad "Surfury" was kept alongside my Grandfather's yacht in the large Groves & Gutteridge shed that is now Cowes Yacht Haven. Having watched every C-T-C since about 1964, I've always been interested in Powerboats despite coming from a firmly "rag-and-stick" family.

Can't afford new boats (though I'm interested in them too) and have recently been more involved with finding and researching old ones...

To keep it short, COPOC promotes / exchanges info about classic powerboats... we can't save them all, but we can help keep tabs on where they are, what condition, etc. ..act as an agency to put people in-touch and try to save the important ones...

I know not all of you feel the same way ...fair enough, but there is a great interest in classic cars (Goodwood Revival, etc.) and some of us would like to see the old boats restored and raced.

In the days when you were only an Able Seaman,Ian.

Looks like your namesake is off for a sea trial, whilst big brother rests.

Think I'm demoted to being the flea on the cabin boy's cat...!

Great picture... Where's that from? ...your house must be like those hoarder's ones on the telly, you know, where you can't actually get in the rooms...!

Anyway, back to Driver's Powerboat Club....

Gill got me in a head lock yesterday and made me sign up to the club on the spot, made me pay ten quid as well - in cash! I couldn't even get a discount as a pensioner. She's a hard lady.

Nothing like hi-jacking the thread Ian.That pic is from the local rag in 1967,and ran a story re raising the roof on the G & G shed, but being as it had Surfury shown, I stuck it in the scrapbook, and yes,you can waltz into the powerboat cave without falling over piles of crap as Mr.Fuller will testify, but one dropped fag and it`s all up in smoke, and this is where Mr.F comes into his own, to preserve it all on his new shiny server. That`s the theory anyway.
