Does anybody know anything about `Southampton dry stack`

They are just opening up and should have their fork lift soon. They have tons of space and a fixed price scale including as many launches as you want. They have quoted me £250 pm for my 24 foot boat.

I know a few of you use Drivers.

As I understand it, you won't be allowed bring outside engineers in to work on your boat, it has to be 'Their' engineer!...no thanks.

No launching at weekends! any boats needed for the weekend, have to be launched on the friday, recovered monday!

They are going to charge for car parking.

And 250 quid for a 24 footer is far from cheap, even if there is unlimited launches. How many launches do you think you'll realistically use in a season?

And lastly, they are RIGHT next door to the scrap yard, so rusty airborn fall-out is a real threat to your boat & cover.

I'll be staying put.

PS. Roger called yesterday, and said you'd got Oki-Doki's extreme 24. well cool, hopefully you'll be joining us out on the Solent this year. will you have it in time for Easter?

Also pontoon space at weekends could be a bit short, plus do they also charge to store your trailer?

I did not know about the engineer rule, that could be a problem.

Pay for parking? that would be bad.

They have told me they will charge £10 p/w for trailer storage, but I have plenty of room at home.

Not too worried about fall out as the boat is under the canopy/ roof that they have.

Gill at drivers has quoted me £111 pm for storage and £35 per launch plus vat = £253.80 if i use the boat 3 times per month.

I shall only keep the boat dry berthed for the summer as i have space to keep her at home.

I feel I would use the boat more than 3 times a month, this is why i am looking around.

Hi Jon

Yes I bought Alisters Extreme last week, it is still dry moored in Lymington. The trailer is at home and I will be bringing the boat back on Saturday (by sea) and recover to the trailer so i can take it home for a couple of minor jobs, cleaning and polishing.

ps cheers for what you said to Roger about the boat on my behalf, i managed to get a reduction in the price! (he was asking too much)

I was just reading this thread and thought it best to clarify one or two points which have been raised regarding what we offer at Southampton Dry Stack -
We offer
- 7 day a week service with unlimited lifts and launches for annual and monthly members
- we allow any engineer to work on the site however all we ask is that they have third party insurance for £2m this is a standard requirement throughout the Marina industry and is solely to protect our members and their boats.
- For annual or monthly members there is no charge for car parking.
- To launch your boat simply telephone, email or text and we will have your boat waiting on the pontoon for you to use when you arrive. The launching and recovery of any boat with our brand new state of the art Marina Forklift will take less than four minutes therefore it is highly unlikely that our 70m of waiting pontoon will ever be full. If you can not giver us notice simply turn up and we will launch your boat which will normally be within 15 minutes.

What about the free advice and help you get at drivers? Will Southampton Dry Stack have racing drivers on hand to dispense advice?

I have been in a few yards and Drivers is the best I have ever been in! This isn't a boat yard it's more of a club. The quality of people working in the yard is impressive, Jim Fry and Neil Holmes Gareth Williams and good advise is always freely available from Mr. Fullers podium!

Gill who is da boss laydee of the yard won't use the forums for selling her services ( well not since the vice skwad had a word with her ) so it's not a subject she'll answer to on this forum!

However the price you quoted for three lifts is more than a 12th of the Annual charge. so why don't you call her and see if she'll do you a deal for 6 months!
