engine well on p21 tandem

Does anyone know why the engine well is so small on a tandem phantom? steering is a rite pain in the a**e coz i've had to setback my engine on a jack plate to get any sort of lock without the arm hitting either side of the well!

ive had same problem on my 18,the alien cowls a lot bigger so ive had to cut the transom so my wingplates clear.

coz when they were designed, double rideguide was the steering, and cowlings were smaller, clamshell 175's
