BenC

How about buying a couple of diesels and putting them into Matt's boat and going halves on the result?

Just a thought . . .

Maybe you should tell him to be serious!

From a quick look around it seems that there are not many boats meeting these criteria, at any price. There are fast petrol boats, diesel boats with cabins, and a whole load of "sporty" diesel boats that will manage about 45mph on a good day.

On www.yachtworld.com they have listed an old Sunseeker XPS 34 for under £35k, or a nearly new 23ft Hydrolift for a little bit more (claimed 45 knots with the VW 150hp diesel, but it's in Sweden).

There are a also few oldish Sunseeker Tomahawk 37s with twin 200hp diesels. Asking price is about £50k but you might get a deal. It's not going to be as fast as you want though.

Assuming that there are no diesel Extreme 26s available, I reckon that a fast diesel RIB might really be your best bet. There might be a deal to be done on a new Naumacos 25 with a diesel in it. OK, so it's still a RIB but it would give you a good excuse to go to Italy to have a look

I suppose you could get a V24 and re-engine it within your budget, but it's hardly a practical option, and isn't going to be easy to resell.

Or how about speaking to Hunton to see if they would make you one of their smaller, old designs? They are discontinued, but I'm pretty sure they still have the moulds and they have done one-offs from time to time (eg for RIBs).

Finally (for now!) how about giving up on the diesel idea and getting a shit hot Phantom 21 for 10-15k, which would give you all the speed you want and plenty of petrol money?

There you go. That should muddy the waters further!

if your budget will run to it try a windy mirage with 300 kad
will run 45 knots around 54 mph good build quailty with cabin sink,
and good in the rough

There are a couple around with KAD44s, asking about £55k. That's 260hp, so what do you reckon? 40mph? 45?

Over budget, under powered!

You're right, I have been looking around for quite a while now, but have not been able to find anything to suite my needs.

I looked into this type of boat, but although you can do the distances in it, and take large groups out for the day.... it became a pain/exspensive to store.

That's it in a nutshell. I will hold out for the extreme 26 for a longer, as from the conversation I had on the phone with a current owner last night, it could well be up for sale Failing that I will need to think again about my options.

No thanks!

I thought about a new build, but would ideally like to go for something second hand, that way theres less depreciation and you dont have to worry about teething problems - obviously there are other issues, like how the boat has been looked after, and things which may have been patched up.

I was looking at getting Dangerous's P21, it looks the nuts, and im sure it went like the clappers to. But had a nice fuel bill with it

I will probably look at P21 or similar again if I can't get an extreme 26.

I was thinking noo. If a 26 was affordable, a 24 would be more so.

If you're desperate, you can by my 'shit-hot' Phantom 21 & Promax.

I'm looking at upgrading to an Extreme Diesel

Ben, whilst an Extreme 26 would be very nice if one isn't available you could consider the 9m VSV, Richard Reddyhoff has for sale at £25k complete with Yammar 315 diesel. Can't find a photo of it on the net, but is was discussed on Ribnet and there is an article in July's MB&Y

http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread....&highlight=vsv

http://www.mby.com/auto/mby/inprint/...byinprint.html

Okay I know its a rib, but pretty radical idea

VSV's usually have a canopy of some sort, I know you ribnobba's like getting wet, but that has to be one feckin wet ride innit!

Interesting though.
