Filming At Speed At Sea

Hi All,

Dryad is running a research and development programme using a Phantom 23 at around 50-60MPH to simulate various forms of maritime asymmetric warfare (eg Piracy).

As part of the R&D we need to film the interaction and listen to voice commentary. We will use a professional cameraman with onwater experience to do this but it would be useful for me to understand whats involved in this.

For the in boat shots we will use a combination of Go pro / Oregon ATC9K / Go Bandit cameras and the intercom system has a voice recorder built in. The issues are - is there a better way to record the sound? Is it possible to record the sound directly into the camera? We need to correlate sound with GPS position with heart rate and G force; what the camera is seeing. Are these the best cameras for the job?

For filming the boat from distance we guess the options are from the land; from the air (V expensive); from a large stable ship or from another boat using a stabilized camera. Is it even possible to film one boat from another without getting a really shaky picture?

Cheers!

Graeme

peter butlers footage on ocr boats was very good considering what we raced in. but that would have been pro equipment.

check out ocr vids in the gallery.
