Finally Launched!
So on sunday i finally got the boat out that i bought from driver510 on here. though was only touching 50 on the speedo, although i know theyre not v accurate think i need to try a different prop. Any suggestions seeing as im new to this boating lark. Apart from hoping for a bit more speed it went like a dream

im not really up on prop info, but im sure a few of the lads on here will give you advice, the p18 looks nice and clean, where did you take her out, i havent took mine out yet, but hopefully in a couple of weeks be going down the coast, summers almost here, i would of thought it would of done well over 50 with any prop tho

im just going on what the speedo said, although it was bouncing around all over the place but not above 50? i am hoping it is the prop, but the engine ran beautifully. that was revving around 5k. took her out down falmouth area but down river out of the chop. weather was pretty good actually.
Anyone got any idea on what prop i need, i do monoski but want to be able to nail it when needs are a must aswell lol!!!

You need to rev it to 6000 rpm so try trimming it out a bit further.
If you still cant pull the revs go down two inches on the prop size a nice laser should do it !

your engine should rev to 5,500-6,000 you need a surface pieceing prop, about 22 pitch, you can also lift the engine up to gain the extra revs, try and borrow some props to try out from someone local from this site,it might take a little while to get the set up right and how you want it. the boat looks good in the water hope that helps lloyd

They're all the same sort of prop, a Raker will be the fastest but not the easiest to drive, and with your rig probably a waste of money, especially if you want to ski behind it. A Laser is a good all round general purpose prop and so is a Tempest.
Spend some more time in the boat trimming it out a little more each time you go out - ignore the speedo, they are mostly useless and borrow or get a hand-held GPS to find out how fast you're going. Once you've got the most out of the boat you can come back with as much information as you can get - Engine information, even if it's just a serial number off the block, max revs and any numbers off the prop and someone will tell you what you need next.
Please remember to tell someone you're going out and take a VHF radio especially if you're out alone!

I see you are from Probus, do you launch at Mylor? We should be out this coming weekend from Mylor, I could have a look at your set up and run alongside you to get you a better indication on speed if you like? Let me know if you are interested.

Thats a great offer from Ian there ljpaddock, I'd bite his arm off. He knows a thing or 2 about P18's with V6's

You'll be in good company if you go out with the beardy one, though his method of prop selection can a bit hit and miss. "What falls out of the car boot first" is not the normal method. But it appears to work for him.
