Finding Minster Heatwave

I need to find the 34ft Sunseeker "Minster Heatwave" which raced in 1983 and came 5th in the RB84. It then became Ocean World. It did sit in Cowes Yacht Haven for a number of years on hard standing but was sold on to someone in Holland I think about three years ago.

Can anyone help me with finding out who purchased this boat and where it went exactly. Contact details would be good as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

I mentioned on another thread a short while back about somebody, forget who as it was a long time back saying it was damaged at the beginning of the 84' RB and I seem to recall it's also mentioned in the RB vid ... if it was damaged I assume it was only superficial and not rendering it unsuitable for racing or rough racing conditions if someone is thinking of bringing it back into the racing arena so to speak

It's not wanted for racing. The boys with DGS on board split the hull somewhat on the way down the East Coast but repaired it overnight and finished the race. It wasn't that serious.

Bob Hunt and I raced it in the Needles Trophy and at Cowes as the Minster boys went on holiday and said we could race it if we wanted to, what a silly question.

Still need to know where it is.

Sorry, I was given the wrong information. Apparently Minster Heatwave went to Norway and was in bad shape when it went.

Can any of our friends in Norway help me here please?

It's a really good looking boat! Out of interest, why are you needing to know where it is?

I thought that question would be asked. Let's just say someone wants it back in this country, can't say more than that right now but it's quite important that it is found.

Yes, it was an attractive boat and fast for it's size too. Great sea boats, two raced in the RB84 the other one crewed by the Griffith family and both finished in the top 10 of the race. They were big boats and were fitted with twin 290hp Volvo petrol's. When you think they were fully fitted out as cruisers it's surprising that they could run at the speed that they did. The Don Shead hull obviously worked very well.

Not another plonker! if I was 65 in 1985 that makes me 90 years old now. If I am then you and Barry should be on my pills Jon 'cause you both look 65 and I look young enough to be your younger brother!!

Flying Fish wrote in one thread that the XPS was not designed by Shead but by Fabio Buzzi. Would like to know more about that as Sunseeker was working with Shead already at the time if I remember it correctly.

Interesting, Sunseeker have always said in all their literature that the 34 was a Don Shead Hull. Would they have said that if it was otherwise?

A very lucky guy I knew back then (around 84) purchased an XPS 34 and Sunseker told him it was a Don Shead boat similar and by the same guy that designed the race boats ... it had duoprop diesel engines of 165hp each and ran if I recall around 36-40mph and it was always pretty good in the rough stuff although if to rough bits of the cabin worked loose and I must admit when it was hauled out the water each winter the hull looked ... well just like a Don shead hull would

PS ... and we ripped the trim tabs of a few times by enthusiastic driving in the rough

I thought Shead had only ever done one hull design, and just used to stretch it to suit.

I can tell you the bottom of my XPS and the San Marino for all intents could have come out of the same mould but for the size difference. Methinks you is confused with the XS.

And Tony you're not far wrong look under all of Dons and they look the same.

I found the old thread (http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12503) and you are right. The P had crept in there. He thought of the XS / Sunracer.
