Flowcoat or carpet in the cockpit....

I've had both and each has their advantages / disadvantages.

Like the hose down finish of flowcoat but it can be slippery on the floor - even with some grit mixed into the top coat.

Carpet looks more plush but stays damp for longer and hard to hose down.

I've just pulled the old grey carpet out as it was nasty cheap lightweight stuff, there is the typical glue residue still to clean off with a grinder and a few minor touch ups to the floor.

Similar costs for the raw materials, weight probably about the same, more surface prep needed for the flowcoat but due to all the various contours fitting new carpet isn't going to be a quick job.

I'm about to have the cockpit upholstery retrimmed in grey/silver carbon effect vinyl so it needs to contrast with that. I can buy both grey and white flowcoat off the shelf in 20kg drums which should be enough to do the whole cockpit. Some of my previous boats have had coloured flecks in the top coat but not sure if this will look right with the new upholstery. Carpet obviously available in loads of colours.

Also thought about flowcoat with a removable bound edge "snap in" carpet but floor locker hatches to deal with so won't work unless it covers the whole area and then have to fold it back to access the lockers.

What do you all think then....

James

I still like the flowcoat with flakes in it , i used double coat instead of flowcoat but its the same idea .
As you can see in the pics i used relative thick flakes (epoxy floor chips sold by kg or bag) wich stick out so even on a wet day it gives enough grip even on bare feet .
I am goane put it in the 700XS as wel when i am finished with rebuildig it have to decide on the color tho

Flowcoat and nonslip painted pannels on the walking areas.

Looks great and works well.

Thats it, or you can mix some sand blasting grit into some gelcoat.

Its a bit of a bitch if you ever have to take it off!

A mate of mine has a Mastercraft (for his sins), the carpet in that dries in nano seconds.
Agree with Ben on this one.
