Is it over 50 foot cause if so the RB8 race was intended for boats less than that.

I discount the winner this year as it had 3 engines and was larger than 50 foot. ( i guess that will upset a few )

May aswell drag out Bransons boat if it becomes unlimited. I'm sure that would of gone around Lands End in a force 9

defo not of the bathtub variety, Robert may have felt more at home on board and as hunton points out is unlimited unfair and should the organisers be denied the chance of a bigger fleet by having these unlimited types of vessels and what of the added glamour and money brought along with them, does that make a good case for them or not

like this one as hunton pointed out , it did actually become the start boat for a race in Bournemouth bay some time in 86/87 nearly sank on the wake alone

The Aga Khans boat Destriero is Still in Plymouth Dockyard having not moved for years ( took the Blue Ribband off Branston) and I'm sure would love a run out . A bit over 50 foot I know, but still a looker...

WOW Well done that's the beasty all right, I'm surprised you can see it from where I was stood it looks pretty well incarcerated and I guess would be well out of reach of almost anyone to access, the name has faded or been removed but you can see the impression left, the guys their said it had been stood their for as long as memory serves them although it was very dirty it still looked functional, an impressive vessel just to dump for what may be forever, it can be seen on Google earth at Davenport Plymouth sat in a military pen tired up to a cruiser with a classical 50s 60's design maybe around 60-70' also as this is an off limits area it sits with a bunch of subs that look like they need more than a coat of hammerite before takaling Iran ... remember seeing a documentary on the building of this fast and money no object boat, it was featured in both Motor boat and yachting and powerboats monthly years back and I thought it said it was for an attempt on the Blue riband trophy although I don't think it ever did the crossing due to rule changes so perhaps that is why the arabs just dumped it in a kind of prison pen out of sight and out of mind forever after all whats a few million to the arabs that's of course if they have'nt flogged it to the milatary for some strange reason

Are you sure it took the Blue riband off Branson can't find that info on internet or maybe just me

I would love to know how much the mooring fees are for all those years.

Aga Khan has been spending on his new boat at the Dockyard costing 100 milion and 60 knots ( when they put the engines right !!! ) so I think he seems to have lost interest in Destreiro.

Me thinks that the Gentry Eagle was a different boat again and later converted to a gin palace by Connor Marine in California

I went in the above boat <Virgin Atlantic Challenger> with Branson up the Thames to pick up the Prime Minister of the day, Margaret Thatcher from Westminster.

It certainly was a "stand out" memory.

I have got some pictures of that afternoon somewhere.

Actually, it isn't. manufacturer states 49' length and the bustle / drives are not included in UIM measured length (as apposed to LOA)

Sounds like one hell of a day to remember and something to show in ye scrap book, as Carl said that Virgin vessel is a good looker

... just found a story on Destriero it is 218' long and 400 tonnes, 54,000hp and 8000ltrs per hour and tops out at 65knts, strange it didn't look as big as that sat next to my 6m boat and as I suspected after doing the Blue Riband crossing in 58 hours 34 mins at an average of 53kts it failed to claim the trophy on a legal issue, being as it's not a passenger vessel so I guess it's incarceration is payback
