Garmin / Raymarine / Lowrance ?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at GPS ploters and trying to find out which one would be the best for open race/pleasure boat

I have alway used Garmin cause I believe they are really bullet proof and very easy to operate. My last unit was GPSMap 525

At the moment I found that Garmin looks really old in comparison to Raymarine and Lowrance. Offcourse I'm not comparing my old unit to modern ones but modern to modern. I also found that Garmin is a bit slower than others. Or maybe it is just my opinion

What GPS do you use?
What are your favorite and why ?

lowrance and raymarine certainly seem to be more robust looking. I have an old lowrance and its good, but i have actually been looking at garmins lately. Biggest plus for a Garmin is their customer service for faults and updates is 2nd to none in my opinion, not only are they on my door step, but my dad has gone through several on his bike, and they always been replaced, with a newer and better unit. He even bought one on ebay as broke, and they replaced it with a newer model worth twice the price.

A friend recently asked them if they could update software on my old car satnav which is 5 years old. They said they doubt it but, they took it, broke it during sw upgrade, so gave him a new one FOC!!!

Good customer service? Maybe in UK
Unfortunately we have much different situation here in Poland.

Still searching for good unit. I think I have to take each one and play with them to check which one is best for me
