Not at all!

You'll note that I haven't said anything about the relative merits of RIBs vs speed boats.

Have many people here taken sub 25ft powerboats across the channel? If so, cool. If not, why not? There's no reason why you shouldn't -- it's not a big deal -- but it's a fact that you don't often see small powerboats without tubes going this far from the shore.

Fish supper anyone?

Well I've done it loads'a times, in boats larger, and smaller than 25', and I wasn't even wearing any cammo gear, didn't have a Bowie knife strapped to my lower leg, and didn't once feel the need to kill any wild animals with my 'weapens' in order to stay alive! so I should get a fkkn medal.

You ribnobbas are wierd fekkr's, I reckon you must have all been bullied as kids or summat!....there has to be a common factor linking the 'would be' SAS mob together.

I brought a 23' single motor Flipper back from Granville (near St Malo), I think that is the smallest.

Did Poole-Cherbourg in the Cetrek challenge thingy (as did Ben in a 32' Velocity) in the first raceboat in 66mins, although it should've been quicker, as about 10 miles into it, one of the Ocke Mannerfelt 'Speed rails' fell orf, which didn't much help the handling of the boat. Reckon we'd have been there in just under the hour had that not happened.

Nicest trips by far were to Guernsey a couple of times in Dick Struttons Cougar US1-46, can't remember what the speeds/times were, but it was fun!

Correct, realistically, it ran upper 70's, but obviously it was easy to run speeds like that in pretty shitty conditions.

it had triple HP465's/Mk4 Speedmasters.

Amazing boat!

I know Derek Basham went over a while back without GPS or anything and ended up at the wrong channel Island - he was in a Phantom 18, and I know Rob Mcarthy has been over in an assortment of craft although one trip did end in a helicopter ride!

That's as maybe Wayne, but coming from somebody with the forum tag "Wayne Kerr", isn't it just a teensy-weensy bit like "pot" and "kettle" ?

I'll take the flack of the likes of Jonny boy and Matt 'cause, despite being "tubeless" they don't just jump on a passing bandwagon.....

Ribs are like Volvos,

But if they was really that Feckin superior every Fecker would have one wouldnt they?

I bet some twango is working away right now conceiving a RIB that lowers four wheels at the pull of a lever. Its got all the airbags in place already. Can you imagine trying to get somewhere by road and some Dungheads blocking the outside lane in a Bright red rigid inflatable doing 70 mph!!!

Ribs were only invented so that wind boaters could go motorboating without seemingly having crossed over to the dreaded stinkpot.

We can if you want johnny.

But you are missing the point. Atlantic Xpat was implying that his mate didnt take his fletcher 21 across the channel cos it wouldnt of made it. I believe that it would have been up to the task.

The Black Pearl, well she's more than upto the task. Tell me what you drink and ill have it waiting for you in Cherbourg. Ill even have a towel waiting so you can dry yourself when you arrive.

Ignore all of the above as i have lost it! Sorry.
