Help on behalf of the NMM Cornwall

I spent a very interesting afternoon at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth on Monday.

One of the Trustees, 'Captain' George Hogg, who has put in lots of work on the military canoe I've lent them, was telling me about one of the boats he is researching at the moment.

He knows it is a US made Ventnor Hydroplane, and knows when a batch were imported.
The London NMM gave Falmouth this one with unconfirmed stories of it being used by the Cambells as a test/chase boat at one stage.

It appears to have been re-skinned, and maybe slightly altered at some stage removing all its markings, but the 6cyl engine appears original apart from the British coil.
The real thing that sets this specific boat apart is that it has been converted to Column steering with a box at the bottom rather than the cable steering it should have.
George is hoping the steering modification may help identify this specific boat, and maybe prove some of the claims of who used it.

If anyone can be of any help please let me know and I'll pass any info on to george.

Thanks

Nasher.

I like the paper plane! And the boat holding rig thing, does that sucker to the sides or something??

Sorry, i'm not being very helpful here, it looks like a fascinating boat, but i for one have never seen anything like it before!

Good luck with the hunt for info!
