Help wanted

Hi Guys and girls

I am hoping to buy a 21ft ring with a 2.4 bridgeport on the back, year not known but we think its early 90's. before we buy it I am going to do a compression test, at the moment its swinging a 28" chopper prop, could anyone give me some numbers for the test as I know its an old engine.

Regards Speedygirlie

If it were me I'd more interested in make sure the readings for all pots are within 5 PSI of each other. Unless you have a Snap on gauge or similar I would disregard the reading you get against new, particularly on the lower end stuff.

If you can get the s/n of the motor we can age it for you.

Thumbs up

The prop is way to big IMHO. I've got a ring 21 with a 2.4 bp and I'm swinging a 24" chopper.

Same as, I have a Ring 21 with a bridgeport EFI, running a 25 laser 2 blueprint. Can get it to 7100 on a long run but a 24 would be better.
Boat came with a 24 chop on it.

Thanks for all the information guys, I will try and get the serial number of the engine. As long as all the tollerences are within 5 it will be good.

I thought the prop was going to be a bit too big so I will be putting on a 24 prop.

Regards

You need to be careful with a 2.4 Bridgeport. I've seen a lot recently with cracked bridges. You can get pistons now, they dried up for a while but if you can get a set of gaskets I'd have the heads off, I've been caught before.

Thats why all mine had steel sleeves in all holes. Except the one on the Ring, thats all Nic, block stamped 95. Go figure

Was talking to Hutchy about that before, he said he used to cut the bridges out and chamfer the top of the ports.

Never done that myself always thought that was a big exhaust port for the ring to be unsupported, I've seen too many failures with the ring catching in the port. The 2.5 F1 port is HUGE but the geometry is completely different. Guess I just have to grow bigger balls and give it a try I have a nice nic block to try it on. Thanks for the tip.
