I am trying a 5.9 cummins diesel 12 V. With some upgrades it's easy to make 500 to 600 HP with 850lbs/ft . We are building a speed increaser gearbox of 1:2 for this engine, this way we double the RPM and the torque is devided by 2. The only thing we have not solved is the shifting problem as the output shaft will be turning around 1200 rpm.

The cummins can run 4200 rpm max if you guys are interested, bowman has the cooler for this engine.

Weight is around 530kg.

I think we will be on the water in a month.
If you want I'll keep you informed

The Cummins is a long engine, plus step-up gearbox, this makes for a long engine bay! especialy in a 23 footer.

No back seat I presume.

A747 + 98RON isn't to healthy neither....

http://www.dieseldynamics.com/ gives you al the dieselpower you need.
I decided not to go with an electronic engine, although for the smoke-contol it would be much better.

In the boat an ecm will want to have ABS sensor inputs, al kinds of transmission inputs and I just thought it would be harder to make it work

I just received a lesson in economics! I called Tom at Warlock Marine and discussed Duramax diesel marinization, torqueflite 2 speed trasmission marinization and two new Konrads. Not to mention a total refit of the Comanche. And here is what I learned.

High test gasoline really isn't that expensive after all!

Thanks

No itīs not when you consider how many hours you ACTUALLY run your boat. (less than 50 a year..closer to 20..)
For the prices here you had to get out about 1000hrs with diesels just to get even and then they will even need rebuilds somewhere (Turbos).

Myself thought about Duramaxes and installing aftermarket injection from gas engines with giving new sensor parameters, the ECUīs donīt know what they run.
Conclusion I became to that Iīll even here at 5$ a gallon still stick to BBCīs but Turbocharged with EFI and Surface drives.
The most economical equation.
The Seatek and Lamboīs in UIM boats had 4-6 speed gearboxes and Iīm sure a Wavecrusher like an Apache doesnīt need them because the speeds ainīt the Thing...

I'm not sure Seateks ever had multi ratio drives. twood have to be a mighty strong transmission!

With the cheaper 'Marine' diesel here in the UK, there's no contest for running cost, if we lose that at the end of 2006, which is a strong possibility, things will be a little different!

Nobba, the Nissan is taxed till the end of the month. When I get back from France (Monday), let's chuck some vegetable oil in it and see what happens.

I remember them having might remember wrong thou.
2 speeds they did have.

Going back to Duramaxes:
The reason the are so low rpm are that they are direct injected not chamber like your 6.5l(?)s which turn higher.

We have here also different "marine" diesels (light househeating oil) but itīs so "dry" youīll get problems with injectors not getting lubrication.
So the cure would be 2stroke oil in it ?
If it gets banned then it ainīt worth it.

You can get around 650hp/900lbs.ft from Duramaxes but like with any diesel turning up the boost and fuel takes out the service life.

Thereīs a few crazy guys running W124/123 chassies Mercedes 3.0 12valve turbodiesel with over 300hp so 100hp/liter isnīt far fetched from Duramaxes with their 4 Valve head.

For the running costs itīs just how much you run on a summer.
Me not much as the summer is short and I also sail competitvely and have other activities like auto racing.

Tomorra.
Was thinking about the coolant last night. Not gonna have time to do it properly before I go so am gonna siphon a load off and top it up with af to keep it safe till I get back and then give the wagon a proper full service when I get back.

If you're very keen, ya can borrow the nissan while I'm away to have a play.

Mono turbo/Biturbo control, but as far as I know, no multi speed gearbox's.

The Buzzi 'Sunracer'/Sunseeker XS2000 has 2 speed ZF transmissions on it's Yanmar 350/420/440 motors, coupled to Trimax's.

They also did that thing called the 'Ring Drive' which also used Yanmars, but the Toyota based 4.2 litre 315hp, motor facing the wrong way, two speed tranny, and the equivalent of a 'Vee Drive' & Trimax, all in one package.
