History of this Phantom Boat

A couple have just purchased a house in Surrey & with it they got a Phantom powerboat that had been sitting/rotting in the garden for years.

They were told that it had won the Round Britain race hence they contacted me thru the RB11 website

They have asked me to help find out any info about the boat.... I have 3 pictures that they have sent throught the post that I will scan in later today however lets get the ball rolling

Boat - looks to be 16/18ft
Mustard yellow with blue & white flashes down the side
Race Number - E153
Boat Name - Phantomime
Other number K486

That all till I stick the piccies up

ATB

That will be a Class 4 or OCR boat - I am betting Mr Williams raced against it!

Used to play football against Sutton Grammar!

Funny but I don't - I used to live in Wallington, and as a school boy would map all the powerboats locally, I still remember the Phantoms, Drivers and Fletchers etc.

If it's circa 1980 then I am gonna be wrong. But seen identical boat maybe, I grew up in earlsfield now live in mitcham, but dad used to take me to putney as a kid.

Do you know if they'd like to sell it?

If it's looking for a home, I'd be interested.

It's the fledgling Phantom16 'Droop Snoot' that Steve Baker & Melvyn 'Ricky' Richardson campaigned in 1970 winning the national championship. It was actually the second 16 produced, as the first one had structural issues.. It was referred to as 'the phantom', as it was the only boat at the time bearing the name. Steve then went on to build & race the 4 litre (IIID) P23 'Spectre' and the rest is history.

Anyone got a Red Band 80 Merc?

Pretty sure that was the first P16, raced in class III in the early seventies by SB.

The 'K' number on it indicates membership of the Kent Boat and Ski Club at some time in its history.
